180 days, rumors????

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I'm 65, swedish, living in Denmark.

I got pension from both countries.

Rumors: I can't stay in Thailand (or anywhere else) more than 180 (179) days or I can LOOSE MY PENSION!!!

Truth or just rumors????

I would have thought that if a new issue the online financial news in those countries would be carrying the story  in local language - have you checked?

If an actual proposal/law then presumably available online from the relevant govt. again in local language?

I believe once you have been granted the old age pension, you can take it with you wherever you go, subject to you having lived in the country 2 years prior to leaving, that's the case in Australia, however if you have lived outside the country for more than two years, you have to return, apply and wait 2 years before you can leave,

So not exactly relevant to the OP then..............

And not the case in the UK  (at least yet) - which is also not relevant

I've met both Swedes and Danes, who have living here for many years. Two that I know for sure have not been back to their home countries for many years either.

I don't think you have much to worry about.

If Swedish but living in Denmark, then you are not living in Sweden.  Have you lost your Swedish pension while living outside of Sweden?  If not, then I submit that being in Denmark or Thailand will have no bearing on the Swedish pension.
