Water truck careers off Patong Hill, killing one

A fully-loaded water truck has slipped over the side after crashing through the roadside barriers.

There’s been another fatal accident on Patong Hill this morning (March 22). So far there’s been one fatality reported with another critically injured.

 

A fully-loaded water truck has slipped over the side after crashing through the roadside barriers and fallen down the roadside cliff on the Kathu side.

 

Long traffic delays in and out of Patong as a result, particularly on the Kathu side.

I think the state of the tyre's will explain this crash,

Along with speeding, not using low gears, riding the brakes etc.

Wasn't this the hill the authorities were going to ban trucks and busses from using?

There'd be a real irony here if it was delivering water for Songkran !

Actually, if the roads weren't wet, bald tires offer the best traction.

How many deaths so far on this hill? You wonder how much more proof is needed until something is done. Ban everything but cars would be a start. How about making it one way - up only? Admittedly I don't know the hill but surely there have been enough deaths from vehicles going down that it seems logical to stop them - but, unfortunately logic and Thai don't go together.

Let's guess....brake failure ?!!

Are you serious - one way up hill. So when the truck starts to roll back back wher does the following traffic escape to. One way down slows everyone  down.  a good thing

Logic seems to be not only a Thai problem

If they go up the hill then they still have to go down the other side .

The later would be the Root Cause 

FYI Patong hill is a steep hill both up and down, with many curves, some very tight.
