Thai people are invited to join others in 7,000 cities in 178 nations across the world to turn off lights for an hour this Saturday to mark Earth Hour 2018, the biggest global environmental event to draw attention to global warming.

Participation in the one-hour event running from 8.30pm to 9.30pm is considered an exercise in raising awareness of climate change and the need for environmental protection.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration recently announced that it has prepared six major landmarks to enable the lights to be turned off – the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the Grand Palace, the Temple of Dawn, the Giant Swing, the Rama 8 Bridge, and the Golden Mound.

All government buildings are asked to join with the private sector, communities and individuals in participating in the event.

This year is Bangkok’s 11th year participating.

It is estimated that the capital could save up to 1,953 megawatts of electricity – the equivalent of reducing 1,016 tonnes of CO2 emissions to the environment, representing a saving of up to Bt7,680,000.

Thailand joins the World Earth Hour <deleted>. The one hour when no one can see what the other person is doing.

For the eco-idiots it is their one hour of glory which achieves nothing except probably more opportunity for groping and stealing and cheating while the lights are out.

More appropriate for Bangkok would be the Klong Clean Up Hour but Greens of any persuasion don't like getting their hands dirty. They prefer to sit sipping lattes and getting stoned to celebrate the World Earth Hour.

It is a blessing it only lasts for an hour a year.

Stupid load of baloney, it's too little too late, and nobody cares anyway, they've all got their head in their phones.

This symbolic act is like prayer: accomplishes nothing but makes you feel good about yourself anyway. Okay, how about the other 8,759 hours of the year?

Unless they throw the switch on the net as well. ???

Thailand has for the last few years had a very effective energy saving 1 hour when most television sets are turned off, it happens every Friday early evening.

Unless they throw the switch on the net as well. [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

It will certainly be a good “face saving” excuse for the usual weekend ISP throttling of the internet server speeds.

Just as the player kicks the penalty shot the delightful rotating motiff appears ???

Don't want to sound negative but dont most of these  left wing looney ideas turn to <deleted>  very quickly.

Will  there be a spike in house burglaries , bike theft and street muggings during that dark hour of brain numbness.

Just a thought.

Wouldnt it be much better to spend one hour cleaning up rubbish and terminating soi dogs?

Obviously not.
