Sure. It's called "cash advance". Some banks charge for it, some don't. I know Bangkok Bank doesn't and Krungsri does (200 baht). Not sure about SCB.

It's actually a known better alternative to ATM withdrawals with a foreign card, as it lets you save the 220 ATM fee (if you don't have a card that automatically reimburses these fees, such as Schwab).

Unless your bank does not charge for cash advance, I recommend comparing what you get with the current exchange rate.  I did it once at Bangkok Bank and found my U.S. bank charged a percentage of the amount of cash I requested that was over the 220 baht ATM fee Bangkok Bank charges (my U.S. bank does not charge for ATM withdrawals).

But do you need to put your PIN in somewhere, or just sign a paper with anything

Just sign a paper. They identify you with the passport, that's much better than a PIN.

Note that cash advances with a credit card are usually a bad idea, depending on your bank/card. In the US, cash advances on credit cards normally immediately start collecting interest on the withdrawal amount (as opposed to normal purchases, which only start collecting after the payment due date, if they haven't been paid). Always use a debit card if possible. If you have to use a CC, immediately pay it after you take the cash advance.

So you incurred the dreaded cash advance fee, but at least they couldn't charge you additional interest on the cash as they would have with a credit card. Hopefully you have 0% Foreign Transaction Fee (FTF) on that card at least.

Note that many cards have a $0 cash advance fee, 0% FTF, and even ATM fee reimbursement (you get the 220 baht back). Always pays to check in advance :)

I agree not wise. Immediate interest charge on a CC advance, and I believed at a higher interest rate. If you plan on paying off within the billing cycle you will still be charged with interest.

Luckily of no concern to me . Credit card charges are automatically deducted from my balance. There are never any interest charges because no debit balance .
