Pattaya station chief: Have a "Sensible Songkran" - and we'll protect you!

Pattaya's chief of police Pol Col Apichai Krobpetch has urged the public to be sensible this Songkran. In an interview with the Thai media ahead of the raucous celebration he outlined his measures and that of the other authorities in the city to ensure safety and fun for all.

But he warned those that break the law that he will be waiting for them.

And in statements sure to anger many females and maybe a few males, he also repeated the oft heard phrases that women should dress appropriately and not bare any flesh.

Finally he promised that the cops would be donning traditional costumes from the past to entertain in a music show.

Pol Col Apichai was speaking to Pattaya News on Friday when he outlined the details that his force and the Bang Lamung district authority, City Hall and the military were working on for a safe and happy Songkran.

He promised the following: crime suppression, "incident" suppression, road accident reduction and convenience for tourists both Thai and foreign for a carefree and fun Songkran.

But he asked for a "Sensible Songkran" that meant: no high pressure water guns and no powder smeared inappropriately on women's private parts.

To take care of the former he said that his men were preparing to raid any people with PVC pipes or high pressure guns ahead of the celebration. He promised arrests for those breaking the law selling such items.

For the latter he asked women to dress politely and appropriately displaying no overt sexual behavior or nudity. He asked people to respect Thai culture and even try to dress in tradition Thai attire.

In crime suppression he promised that plain clothes officers will be mingling with crowds rooting out any criminal elements who might try to use the celebration as cover for illegal activity.

Finally he said that the police band, in line with government requests, will be dressing up in costumes of yesteryear to entertain the public and tourists with some lovely music.

But "Have your self a very "Sensible Songkran"" was his overriding message.

Have a happy songkran , and we will protect you, for a price.

Call the police station for an up to date list of prices.:cheesy:

more like just take a number and that is how many days it will be before can see you (after we stop laughing at what happened). They hand write police reports still which that alone takes forever...

Pattaya Plod serving and protecting the public?  More verbal platitudes signifying nothing.  They will continue to milk business owners; stifle competition; whilst doing the minimum of crime fighting.

Now that's a real novelty and leads to one last typical question here: "How much?"

I live just outside Pattaya. What's Pol Col Apichai going to do for the area around where I live?  Yes, SFA!

I have to use my car to go to my local 7/11 during Songkran; using my motorcycle would be suicidal!  Whichever route I take on the 2 minute journey, it's wall-to-Wall little Somchais, throwing buckets of water over everything that moves, with the proud parents standing with them, making-sure their little darlings don't miss anybody!  One of these days, I'm going to get locked-up when I lose my rag, with a dose of western retaliation!

They already do!  Shorts and flip-flops is the daily choice for most of the residents around the Pattaya area; some even wear a shirt.

There are certain communities already going nuts and bananas over this brilliant idea:

I'm disappointed with our members for not pointing out that traditional Thai dress being urged in the OP was in fact topless. May need to step up the ol' testosterone checks.
