i hear you.

i gave up having guests at hotels. the humiliation of going through an interview and surrendering id was not for me.
i even had one place call up when someone was leaving to "make sure I was ok".

if you did not answer the phone some jerk from thai security would even come up and knock on the room door.

now, if i plan on having guests over i will rent a private place by the month. could not be happier, even with the increased risk of somebody stealing something, which almost never happens anyhow if you have talked to who you are bringing over for any length of time.

Ahhhh, firstly, nothing really to be humiliated about.  Millions, yes, millions, of guys have walked up to reception with their "new friend" over decades here.

The staff couldn't care less.  They are just doing their job.  It's nothing new to them.  They see it every shift, day, and night.

I would rather reception staff do what they can to try to stop theft, than worry about any "humiliation" on my behalf, but each to their own.

Having to register guests or visitors is humiliating.

Try renting your own place and drop the coddling and theft fears, and for heavens sake get that front desk off speed dial you hippie <deleted>.

As single people we all pay a double rate so have a right to a guest.  We get no reduction for being single. We can have a guest.

"Having to register guests or visitors is humiliating." - it's not humiliating for millions of sex tourists that visit Thailand every year, so why is it for you?

Perhaps you would be more suited to The Middle East, where only your legally married wife can stay with you, granted, some guys there have ten legal wives. ?

I do rent my own place.  There is no 24/7 reception. My apartment has  a safe.  Wallet, phone, watch go into it when I am "entertaining" a new friend.  Computer and other smaller electronics like portable HDD's and  cameras etc are in a second bedroom, which I also use as a study, which I can lock from the outside.

Never had a problem.

I agree, but many hotels in Thailand also want their slice of the sex trade, hence, many hotels charge "a joiner fee."

Another easy fix: Get a cheap guesthouse room for max 500 Baht and take only things you can easily miss to there (shower gel, toothbrushes,), before you go out. Your belongings will be safe in your hotel room, including your mobile phone.

Why make it complicated?

Prior to enter Your room put on the handcuffs and as soon as she has entered put on a pair of boxing gloves which will remain on until the job is done and she is outside your room ready to exit the building...:whistling:

I've loved loads of black hookers and never been robbed. Ladyboys are a different story! I'm short of 22 phones.

No. They don't need to.  They are ID at reception. They are reportable to their places of employment.  It might happen but it's very rare

I've had thousands of encounters as have my friends and never heard of theft. When did it happen to you? Where did it happen to you? Did you report it? What was the outcome? What was stolen?

100% wrong. Only idiots pay a joiner fee. As a single person you get no discount on a double room so you are paying for an extra person anyway. in 28 years never been asked for a joiner fee. Only heard about through posts from naive idiots on another forum. If I was asked I would check out.

"No. They don't need to." - "It might happen but it's very rare."  - could you contradict yourself anymore????  ?

I said, " TIP: Thai hookers will also steal from you."  - did I say "ALL Thai hookers will also steal from you?"  No.

"They are reportable to their places of employment." - what about all the freelancers working out of the nightclubs, and off phone apps?  What employer are they "reportable" to????

I have never had anything stolen.  I have an apartment here that has a safe.  My cameras, laptops etc are in a locked second bedroom.  When I "entertain" her ID Card goes in my safe, along with my wallet, phone, and watch.

When I am traveling and staying in a hotel, I ask to see the ID Card and take a photo of it with my phone, it then goes to reception.

Never had a problem.

Now, the guys that get really drunk, come back to their hotel and leave their wallet, phone, and watch on the beside table, well, there are countless media articles of theft by their "new friend."

"100% wrong." - no. 100% correct.  Many hotels charge a "joiner fee."

"If I was asked I would check out."  - I make enquiries before booking.

"As a single person you get no discount on a double room so you are paying for an extra person anyway." - have you considered it's to discourage sex tourists from staying at the establishment, among families?
