Why do farangs come to Thailand if they dislike Thais and "Thainess?"

I love Thais, I married one. On the other hand I believe In Thailand there is a strong "smell"

of discrimination and racism towards Farangs. It becomes obvious while going through Immigration

at Airports. I can read the look on their face "get out of my country you rich farangs".

Also in Thailand I have not heard of an anti-discrimination Board, which makes it easier to hate us.

But my motto is "If you don't like the heat get out of the kitchen".

Scary, very scary. Unfortunately the future unless things change.

Yes.

And it will take a gigantic change in weak western male attitudes to do so.

But, unfortunately I do not see that happening.

Also, I am seeing way too much of it here. Females totally controlling males lives.

So, you are paying her what for what??

Very sad indeed...

Is it because of a keen nose, or because of your psychic powers, you can see so deeply into busy people in a high-stress public-facing (culturally atypical) job and read their internal state ?

Splendid stuff-but can you say it backwards?

It makes the letters to The Times appear folksy and disinhibited.

I do disagree , its generally participated in by the lower classes of society , both workers and customers .

Its a small lower element of Thai society , although if you live among that kind of lifestyle, you may consider it to be normal

Sounds to me as if you're lodging an insult.

I think the OP's original statement is rather broad.

Many people after many years here can get a little jaded after the shine wears off.

There are many things that many like here. I guess women figure high up there, but weather food, and I was going to say inexpensiveness of the place, but the last one I'm sceptical of as time has gone by.

But after a while, after that initial bright shiny light has faded it's easy to get increasingly frustrated by the place. I could almost write a lot of webfact's stories on here, since they are the same stories every year, just with the date changed

From taxi scams to traffic insanity. Another year another crackdown, reform the system, eliminate corruption, guarantee you it'll be the same next year. Then there are the coups. I went through 3, I could almost puke listening to the same BS every single time

You'll get some on here, either the newbies or those so invested they can't escape, that are the classic apologists, even if there was raw sewage in the streets they would retort with 'well why don't you go back from where you came'. That gets old too after after a few years of hearing it over and over.

We went back to the US last year, after I just got too frustrated with it all. Now I have the best of both worlds, 6 months in Thailand and 6 months in the US.

The return to Thailand after 6 months away allows me to have that initial ability to suspend disbelief again that I had the first time here, then by the time the shine has worn off it's back to the US before it get too bad....and let the cycle repeat

Then there are the coups.

Please entertain us decribing all the trouble that came to you because of the coups?

Or is it a small higher end of society?

I reckon that after about 10 years their brains are like Swiss cheese...the holes are holding it together.

What else would you expect from disempowered, culurally alienated elderly gentlemen controlled by a woman who can barely speak English-or any other European language for that matter. The rest appear to be rejects from the recruiting depot of the Legion Etrangere Francais...circa 1933.

Take your choice."le cafard" or "the Doolally"..

Frank Richards in "Old Soldier Sahib" could certainly tell you all about the Doolally....

I'm not sure about you (or me), but, sometimes I suspect I came here to live out a b-movie re-make of "The Man Who Would be King,"  taking the part of Sean Connery????

However, as you can see, here, I ended up as the head in a polo game: (link : skip to 2:48) my starring role

I come from Alabama, a state which proves that stupidity is not necessarily a life sentence.

You refer to the 340 black people lynched in Alabama between 1877 and 1981 ?

I thought they had to be physically fit to enlist.

Every single coup creates a time of uncertainty which causes one to multiply the effort to safeguard any possessions or personal safety. In other words, spend absolute minimum of time with Thais and money until the dust settles, more so then in between coups. Or you can just stick your head in the sand and see if any one strolls by and shoves a big one up your chimney.

The answer seems to be that they'd be unhappy anywhere (grumpy old men).

Perhaps they're more perceptive han "happy old men" ?

I prefer to view my circumstances as a glass half full.... No time to cry in my beer.

Indeed - no point in diluting a good beer even if it does fill up the glass

Yes, agree.  These kind of people would be just as grumpy and complaining about other people, things, back in their country of birth.

just in their home countries have little to zero chance of getting laid.!!
