Bangkok Post reported 29 Apr that foreign criminals are using education visas to commit crime in Thailand.

Tourist police will hold  a meeting with Education Ministry about this problem.

If the Police know that they are "criminal" , then why not go and arrest them ?

Its getting quite frequent now for the RTP to target certain people and to label them as being criminals , just to justify their actions

Ed. visas are the easiest long term option for many, abuse is common. The lingo schools are in on it, easy money for them as no need to try to teach the no show student.  That some criminals use this route does not surprise me.

The huge majority of Ed schools insist that you attend regularly , they also withdraw your visa if you do not attend (OK , they dont withdraw the visa themselves , but they inform immigration ) and keep your money paid for lessons

There are some Schools that  are not concerned about attendance , but there are fewer and fewer of these left .

If the Tourist Police want to get to the root of the problem, they should meet with the Immigration people who get "hassle free extension" payoffs, and make life difficult for "good" students who don't pay.

There were some errors in that article. A glaring one was where it states that the change of visa status is done at the Consular Affairs Department since those are done at a immigration office.

The majority of immigration offices will not do the change of visa status for a language course. They will only do them for language studies at at a university.

Also I am not sure about the part about the studies being done at a international school since normally they only offer classes for K to 12 students.

I think the only crackdown is for under the table changes of visa status and extensions of stay done at some immigration offices.
