Sounds like you look for the ONE garage.

Even without knowing much about Phuket there must be about a dozen on the island.

You look for one close to Surin beach area?

Whenever you see the "cogwheel" there is a testing station.

You can also handover your book and let them handle the tax/insurance stuff for a small fee if you are not keen to go the office yourself.

100% certain that one or more testing stations are close to the DLT office.

Not much close to Surin beach.

But about 10 stations or more.

An arbitrary result on "Chao Fa" rd.

(I can't recommend anything of course, wait for a local resident)

Thanks, Dont need near Surin Beach but near the Car Tax office will be excellent !

There is also one easy to find in Patong;

Come down Patong hill into patong and bare left at bottom onto Pissitkoranee rd, the road then turns immediately left then right (past Wat Patong main entrance) just after take the right turn onto the Klong rd, follow this to the Family mart then follow rd left, go over speed bump your looking at Big C mini mart, bare right with rd, the test garage is immediately on the right with the Cog wheel sign (theres a restaurant there so you can have a sit down and drink/bite to eat while u wait.

above is the one i always use,+get my insurance thru them, after they give me the certificate ,zip down to the office and get my yearly sticker.

I use the one on the map- easy to find and fairly quick, added benefit that its a couple of minutes from the LTO.

A lot of convenience is relative to where one lives.

Yeh went the test garage this morning, in and out in about 10 minutes for 200thb.

They also had the option to buy the compulsory Insurance.

Popped into License office, wasn't there much more than 10 minutes also...

Pretty smooth and painless.

Thought this one only tests motor bikes. Been a few years but they could not test my car.

Hey, I only take my bike there so good point LK, I see cars and Tuk Tuks there as I pass frequently though? but yep av only taken bikes there for test

my understanding is there is one on the main road in cherngtalay just opposite the temple (before police station about 500m on left coming from heroines monuments) they pass the vehicle and also issue next day the road tax certificate.

i was always under the belief vehicle had to go all the way into Phuket town and didnt realise it can be all done

locally...
