RTP: Traffic police to be paid for hard graft - that means work!

This reminds me of the story back in 2014 when the junta had an imbecilic brain snap and decided to bribe police not to accept bribes. No one bothered to tell the military bozos that it was mostly the police extorting money rather than people offering bribes. Police were being rewarded 10,000 baht for refusing a 1000 baht bribe.

Being paid a commission on fines seems a bit iffy to Westerners but really it’s just an incentive to do the job correctly. Any honest policeman who gets off his behind and enforces just the minor traffic laws such as no helmet,  failing to stop at traffic lights and having no lights at night could be very rich very quickly. The bonus to this is it might even cut the death toll, every little helps.

Until the Government reforms the RTP nothing will change, the ordinary police officer will remain a part of a franchise that gives his bosses everything and he very little, and seemingly less if current news is correct.
