A big Mall such as MBK should have many available cases for the Nokia 6.1.  Lazada has a gazillion cases for example this simple soft silicon case:

Which is normally the case type I recommend as it is inexpensive and offers basic protection.  But Nyezhov you have been known to drop your phones, so going with a heavier, armoured type case might also be considered.

Never liked using cases but decided to give them another shot after replacing yet another  screen (7600thb) at Samsung

These rugged cases are legit, they can handle not only a fall but even being thrown across the room by a toddler onto a tiled floor...if you have young children very worthwhile

faraday; I tend not to like Vivo/Oppo phones because they tend to have a single down firing speaker and their camera may not have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to go along with their many pixels.  There is a new Oppo, the K1 which kind of represents my points.  It's 7,600 baht which includes a 6.4 inch AMOLED screen with a 75.5 mm body width.  So far, wow, what a phone.  But it apparently has no OIS and a single down firing speaker.  I won't be recommending it.

My top three Mid-range phones ranked by my opinion of the best value for the money are the Meizu X8, the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, and the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro.

The Meizu X8 ($227.99 or 7,573 baht from AliExpress) comes with 4/64 memory, a Snapdragon 710 CPU, a 6.2 inch notched screen, nice cameras, and a 3210 mAh battery which charges via a USB Type C port.  The body is svelte and light, and the Snapdragon 710 uses a 10nm process technology to deliver excellent battery efficiency.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite (6,190 baht from Lazada in 4/64), released in July 2018 is an oldie but goodie, with a narrow, easy to hold body, a 4000 mAh battery, good audio output, and favorable reviews from gsmarena and posters here at TVF who have bought it.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro (6,590 baht in 4/64 from Lazada) has a 6.26 inch notched screen but the biggest body of the group.  It has a 4000 mAh battery and good audio per gsmarena.

The Antutu score of the Meizu is 164,726, the Mi A2 Lite 76,500, and the Redmi 6 Pro 115,991.  The two Xiaomi phones charge via the more annoying to plug in Micro USB port.  All three phones are based on Oreo 8.1 but only the Mi A2 Lite is pure Android.

Gsmarena lists the screen-to-body ratio as 86.5% for the Meizu, 79.5% for the Mi A2 Lite, and 81.1% for the Redmi 6 Pro.  The weight of the Meizu is 160 grams, the Mi A2 Lite is 178 grams, and the Redmi 6 Pro is 182 grams.

For me the Meizu X8 is the clear winner here.  It was easy to think of the Mi A2 Lite as deserving of second place on this list.  I think that the Meizu Note 8 is a bit better than the Redmi 6 Pro, but I didn't list it here as it means buying from AliExpress and Lazada is a more comfortable online buy.

I have never owned a meizu yet but if i was in the market for a fairly inexpensive  device it sounds like a winner....

The Pocophone was slightly reduced to $293 on Aliexpress  and now hovering around $295

For an extra $60 odd i would be tempted by the extra horsepower of the sd 845 and ram

If you had to pick one and they cost the same would you still prefer the meizu?

If I were to buy the Poco I would buy it from Lazada.  I do buy from AliExpress but it scares me a lot more than buying from Lazada and I consider LazMall the best of Lazada.  So instead of paying $295 (9,818 baht) to AliExpress I would pay $315.20 (10,490 baht) to LazMall and get the Poco with 6/64 in the steel blue color.

Here are the Meizu X8 and the Poco as compared.

Areas where the Poco wins include Antutu score, battery size, and graphic GPU.

The cameras appears to be a tie.

Areas where the Meizu wins are body size, weight, and screen-to-body ratio.

An unknown area is audio output.  The Poco does not have stereo speakers, which was leaked pre-release and most review sites including gsmarena still list "stereo speakers" for the specs of the Poco.  The Poco has a single, well amplified, down firing speaker.  Gsmarena measure the maximum in call voice volume at 72 dB (and ring volume at 86 dB), and reports that the sound is very clear.  Gsmarena has not reviewed the Meizu X8 and may not ever review the Meizu X8.  I went to the dreaded Youtube "reviews" and watched a few to see if anybody would comment on the audio with no luck.  Meizu tends to have a good track record with audio output, but very few phones with a single down firing speaker reach 72 dB maximum voice volume.

I'm hard of hearing and struggle to understand what people are saying to me on the phone, which is worse if the person has an accent (which for some unknown reason seems to happen to me a lot recently).  So I want the best audio output I can get.  My guess, just a guess, is that the Poco has better audio output than the Meizu X8, just because 72 dB is about as good as it's going to get.  But after a certain volume it doesn't really help me to raise the volume higher.  I have trouble with the sounds, with understanding the words, but blasting the volume doesn't really help.  So the Poco is loud enough for me for sure, and the Meizu is likely loud enough for me but that's not a sure thing.

So, to dodge your question, ks45672, I wouldn't care to order either phone for me.  I want stereo speakers with a front firing earpiece speaker and nether phone has that.  I don't like the size or weight of the Poco and I don't need its processing power.

If the price were equal on the two phones and I was buying one as a gift for a friend 10 out of 10 times I would buy the Poco.  It just is a more well rounded phone with no weaknesses that I know of.  I wouldn't know if my friend likes to play action games, for example, where the Poco has a huge advantage.

The Meizu X8 is a cute phone at a value price.  The Poco is a monster phone at a value price for what you get, but I didn't put it on my prior list as it is 10.490 baht at Lazada while the 7,573 baht Meizu (AliExpress) is less expensive.

Had I put the Poco on the list wouldn't the Poco vs Redmi 6 Pro battle have been a joke!

And while I'm rambling, this topic is the venerable NanLaew's.  Who has been to Hong Kong and surely the Mall deliberating on her next phone.  Ms Nan; are you still with us?  Did you buy a new phone (don't tell me Y9 please).  I really am curious as to the phone NanLaew chose.

I haven't purchased anything yet as work, fishing, play, fishing, school holidays, fishing and other stuff got in the way. I haven't looked at this thread for a while (obviously) but probably next month offers a window of opportunity to get a bloody phone for Mrs Nan.

To save time, can you post a link to your post where you probably stated the whys and wherefores of the unsuitability of the Y9? I will read the last 5 pages to see what the latest comments are.

My budget and needs have not changed.

I'm Mr Nan BTW.... but no big deal. I've been assumed to be much worse things.

Having done a speed-read of the last 5 pages, I now have the following picks (in no particular order).

Xiaomi Pocophone F1

Meizu X8

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite (Redmi 6 Pro)

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro

If DC can oblige with a latest price/availability of these 4 models.marques, that would be handy.

The above is for Mrs Nan

For me, I have an affinity for ASUS phones and earlier this year, I upped my (tight Scottish) game and got the slightly dated ZenFone 3_Z012DB. This has been great as I use it a lot for field work in Myanmar running multiple GPS-based apps as I wander about telling the locals I really am not lost. The only issue I have found is the inability for the local MPT network SIM to access their bought and paid for data service. Tried all options including making sure it is in the SIM1 slot, then the ONLY SIM installed and wi-fi turned off and it still doesn't get data connectivity. Even the MPT app stalls with the prompt to turn off wifi and make sure SIM is in slot 1. The Ooredoo SIM happily connects to data regardless of what slot the SIM is in and who's in the next slot. Must be something to do with MPT SIM's in ASUS phones as I had the same issues last January with my older/cheaper ASUS handsets. One of the reasons I upgraded! No big deal, I run data stuff on Ooredoo and where MPT has better coverage, I have their SIM in a wifi dongle where it works normally and I hot-spot that way.

So, back on topic, if I wanted to up my ASUS game, looking at the Asus Zenfone Max Plus (M1) ZB570TL that's been mentioned on these pages. It appears to have a dedicated SD slot rather than the SIM2/SD either/or option of the current handset which isn't a handy option for me. Any other ASUS handsets that pack in decent options and still come in under 10k?

Great to see you back involved in your fine Mid-range Topic NanLaew.  I have three words with respect to my phone recommendation; location, location, location.  Oh, sorry, that's real estate.

For phones it's Poco, Poco, Poco, and I am not kidding.  As for its price it's 10,490 baht at LazMall on Lazada in 6/64 in black or steel blue or wait until the 12,990 Armoured Edition ( 6/128) is back in stock at Lazada and be a Poco enthusiast.

For those who don't like to purchase online many well stocked box shops carry the Poco.  And upcoming Pocos include a nice deep red colored version and a 8/256 memory Armoured Edition for those who are truly Poco loco.

The Poco f2 may be announced as soon as December 25'th and the rumor sites don't know much of anything about it.  Hopefully it surprises and delights as the Poco f1 did.

Two weakness of the Poco are that the cameras are not great for photo enthusiasts, and it doesn't cover USA bands well for people who travel to the States and want to use it there.

For Ms Nan I recommend the Poco.  For Mr Nan I recommend the Poco.  Hmm, how to tell the phones apart?  How about the steel blue for Mr Nan and the deep red for Ms Nan?  I can search around to try to find out when the red will become available if that is an issue for you.  It became available in India on October 11'th.

I'll go ahead and pan the Asus.  The Zenfone Max Pro M1 (ZB602KL) is 6,890 baht at Lazada (4/64) but to me it's just such a tank with a body length of 159 mm and width of 76 mm which only yields a 5.99 inch screen (76.2% screen-to-body ratio).  Just not worth buying at any price to my mind.

A good debate might be the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 vs the Huawei Y9 (2018) as the screen-to-body ratio is either 76.2% or 76.7% and the body length is either 159 mm or 157.2 mm.  But I am kidding here as my thought is to avoid both of those phones.

If ROM is an issue for you and you don't want to use up the second SIM slot with a memory card then buy the Poco with the ROM that you want, which currently is 128 GB in Thailand but will be increasing to 256 GB in the future.

At the lower priced end of Mid-range there are two nice phones people may want to consider.  The Cubot X18 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy A6.

The Cubot X18 Plus ($125.79 at AliExpress before coupon discount or 4,186 baht) comes with 4/64 memory and 4000 mAh battery, a 5.99 IPS screen and an Antutu score of 55,401,

The Samsung Galaxy A6 (5,990 baht, LazMall) comes with 3/32 memory, a 3000 mAh battery, a 46,000 Antutu score, a svelte body and a 5.6 inch Super AMOLED screen.

Here they are compared:

Posted
The Poco is available at Lazada (K_SMART) in red with memory 6/128 for 12,340 baht.

It is out of stock at LazMall at Lazada in 6/128 memory, but LazMall tends to restock quickly, and the price at LazMall for the 6/128 version is 11,500 baht.

It is in stock in black with 6/128 at "Shopping D" Store at Lazada for 11,990 baht.

For me if I wanted the 6/128 version I might wait a bit to see if LazMall gets it back in stock, but right now K-SMART is the only store I see at Lazada listing it in the red color.

Anybody interested in the Armoured Edition should probable check Lazada frequently as in has been in stock two times at LazMall and sold old each time.

Thanks for finding the comparisons

It's good to have someone here

Who knows what they're talking about because the tech coming out of China is improving so fast it's almost hard to keep up...

I don't mind ordering from ali if its not something I'm in a hurry to get, I've never had a bad experience with them and i know how to initiate a credit card charge back if they send me a brick in a box and refuse to rectify the matter.... ????

The cpu in the meizu would likely be enough for the stuff i do because none of it is intensive gaming (if i wanted that id buy a PlayStation 4)

I suppose the argument for paying for the extra power poco might be a bit more future proof or still able to keep up next year etc because the apps are only getting bigger and more demanding....

Saying that tho, by the time a year or more passes  i will more than likely be looking at upgrading to something with better spec anyway

(5g maybe, better cameras, faster charging +bigger batteries or whatever lol.... Sometimes new technologies are a tempting proposition even when your old one is still fully functional  and i don't sell them so someone in the family gets a gift whenever i upgrade and that keeps them happy too... ????

I may upgrade my primary device to a mate 20 x but id like to hold it my hand first to see if that 7.2" screen is uncomfortable in the hand or not and whether it fits in my pocket or not is important because i don't want a phone that i need to carry in a separate bag when out and about the city.....

I might give Nokia a shot next time. 1+ look interesting, Huawei.

Lazada has a big sale day on 11/11 with a number of phones at a sale price.

To me the most interesting and perhaps best value phone that might be available on 11/11 at Lazada is the Realme 2 Pro for 5.??? baht.  I read the full gsmarena review on this phone and it is extremely favorable.  I also went to Youtube video reviews on this phone and they were all very favorable.  It's a lot of phone very well spec'd out for 5,??? baht..  The problem here is that it is currently not in stock.  I'm sure curious if Lazada will have it in stock in two days and if they do I might buy one just on general principles.

Keep us informed if it will be available at 5??? or even at the price of 6.590 Baht as it is priced now with no stock, because I can't really be bothered following another Lazada promotion scam

I can see what the phone cost elsewhere and Lazada is far from a good deal on most anything for the last 6 months.

They did list the Realme 2 Pro for sale at 12 Midnight on 11/11 for 5,990 baht.  They didn't say they actually had it in stock right now, rather that it was "coming soon", but you could put it in your Lazada cart and purchase it.  At least for the first 15 minutes of 11/11 because after that they listed it as out of stock and you could not order it again.

That is until 10 AM on 11/11 when it went on flash sale again for 5,990 baht and the sale will last until Noon on 11/11 or until they again sell out of their "expected-coming soon" units.  Between 10 AM and 11 AM Lazada reports selling 308 units in the Icy Lake color and 277 units in the black color.

Still on sale at that price delivery 2-4 days, but you got the Redmi Note 6 pro and Huwai Y9 2019 at very similar prices.

All 200-300bht cheaper on Shopee.

Anybody have problem with the lazada wallet? I have tried to buy items from the 11-11 sale but when I want to pay I get error message from my bank "Bill payment unsuccessful. Unable to process your request due to destination system is not available. Please try again later." I have tried several times last night and today without any luck. When I try to contact Lazada hjelp center I get this message: "Our agents are not available right now, please contact us later!!"  Anybody know what's going on? No staff available at the most busy day of the year? Or have somebody hacked the whole website?

If you read the Poco Topic a poster reports that he tried to order from Lazada on 11/11 and his Credit Card was declined.  He then successfully made the order by requesting "collect on delivery".  So maybe the billing computer at Lazada is having trouble keeping up with the 11/11 volume of buys.

I've had trouble this last 6 months or so with Lazada not accepting international credit cards.

Like mentioned above, COD is an option as is buying it, printing out the bill and paying at a 7/11 or Big C.

I'm not a phone guy DC, but your posts here are excellent.

The day after the big 11/11 Lazada sale let's see what the prices of relevant phones are.

Firstly, the Meizu 16th has increased in price from 11,000 baht to 17,900 baht. The LazMall 6/64 Poco has increased from 9,490 to 10,490  baht.  The Lasaer at Lazada Poco 6/128 is unchanged at 10,200 baht.  And the Poco Armoured Limited Edition has increased from 11,990 baht to 12,990 baht.

The Realme 2 Pro has increased from 5,990 baht to 6,590 baht and is in stock in black or blue.  The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is 6,790 baht in black or 6,990 baht in blue or rose gold.  The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite went up a bit in price, and with the superior, to me, Realme 2 Pro in a similar mid priced range the A2 Lite is no longer a recommended buy by me.

The Samsung Galaxy J6 is about the same price and may be of interest to people wanting a mid-range phone with a Super AMOLED screen.  The Galaxy A8 is a bit more expensive than it was yesterday.

I remain very keen about the Meizu 16th, and several stores at AliExpress are offering it at a good price of about 13,000 baht, and one seller may be offer a $100 discount user coupon if you are a new user buying that model.

My top three recommended phones are the Realme 2 Pro, the Poco, and the Meizu 16th.

The Realme 2 Pro has been mostly out of stock at Lazada and came back in stock today for 6,590 baht.  It charges slowly via a Micro USB Port which is a downside of this economical phone but otherwise is has a nice big screen screen with a small teardrop notch, decent audio and cameras, and a Snapdragon 660 CPU with a decent 140,000 Antutu score.  There is a full review of this phone on gsmarena..

I like the 12,990 baht Armoured Edition of the Poco or for 10,490 baht it can be had in 6/64 in black.  Lazada has flash sales on the Poco from time to time so maybe on Black Friday it will be offered for the 9,490 baht price of the 11/11 flash sale.

As rwilem has posted the Meizu 16th sometimes is on a flash sale at Lazada for a great price or sometimes is listed at a terrible price.  It currently is listed on Lazada for 17,900 baht and should not be bought at this price as it has been 11,990 baht when on a flash sale and it is about 13,700 from AliExpress.

The Meizu 16th is my favorite price no object phone right now as it is expected to have great audio output, is slim and light with a Snapdragon 845, a 6 inch screen and a 3010 mAh battery.

What phone is available fir Dtac and on sale in bkk that would be an upgrade from Samsung S6?  Battery life not that important for this friend.   A bit of wow factor from her friends would be nice.   But don't say Apple.  Under 12,000 baht all in.

The Meizu 16th sale at Lazada has been continuing all week, and the phone (black, 6/64, global version) is still on sale for 11,900 baht as of today. Sometimes it goes back to the regular price of 17,900 baht, and then the price reverts again to the sales price. It's been offered at the sales price all week.

I have noticed because as a Meizu 16th buyer myself I have been checking Lazada, and subsequently Aliexpress, for accesories for the phone. Being as the phone is not retailed here, if you want to to get a screen protector and/or a back cover, tempered glass, whatever, for the phone you would have to order them online. At Lazada there are not any stores offering locally-sourced protectors/covers, or with an inventory of said items for the Meizu 16th, so even if you order from Lazada those items are all going to be shipped in from China.

I like to have a film screen protector, and a firm silicon back cover, if available. I've always used those on my phones, and it's good to check out a cover at a store first, of course, before you go ahead and buy and put it on. But I'll order one or two online and see how they are.

The Meizu 16th phone itself is impressive. So far, so good. It is light, feels lighter in the hand than what you might expect. The full screen appearance is an eye-grabber. Flyme, the OS, is rather basic, and that's fine by me. Got to get familiar with it, and get the phone set up how I like. There certainly is not 'bloat' loaded in the OS. The audio output is about the best I've heard from an Android. I know that some iphones put out some powerful audio. Lay the Meizu down on a table playing some music and I can hear the stereo output. There are channels of audio emanating from the top-of-the-phone speaker and the bottom speaker. The audio is good, that is a big plus for me. Just getting my feet wet with it now, but happy I waited and got this phone.

Meizu  looks like they have made an excellent job on performance optimization of their 16th model

Current industry standard benchmark "antutu" have it listed as the 5th fastest phone in the world which is pretty incredible for such a low price
