That's not Thai-ness!: Locals furious as "Coyotes" dance in the street at cultural parade

A once every three years cultural parade in Isaan was the subject of controversy after one of the floats featured scantily clad "Coyote" women strutting their stuff.

What was billed as a showcase of rural culture turned into something you might expect in raunchy Pattaya, reported Sanook.

The women were dancing on the bed of a pick-up truck that was part of the Rocket Festival parade in Phiboon Mangsaharn town in Ubon Ratchathani province on Saturday.

Furious locals - angered too by a fire truck that spoiled the parade by creating a hold up - said that the parade should have featured only local culture and not dancing girls corrupting the many children present.

The local authority were not available for comment.

Thaivisa notes that while drinking and dancing girls feature at many Rocket Festivals in the north east of Thailand the actual parades themselves are usually reserved for more sober exhibitions of Thai rural culture and traditions.

Hmm, some fat legs in that photo...

Don't look like any "coyotes" that I've ever seen in Thailand. Nor do the frocks that they appear to be wearing, which are entirely un-coyote-like.

considering a great number of the bar girls are sent from this region by their parents to earn money(to be sent back to them) doing this sort of thing I think it is very culturally aligned to the region. Maybe they should have also been doing the horizontal mumbo jumbo to show what they actually do to get the money for their family back home......
