Russian woman missing on Samui: Father turns to sorcery after police fail in month long search

A Russian father has turned to a fortune teller and sorcery after police in Koh Samui have failed to find any trace of his missing daughter.

Inna Abuknova (name transliterated from Thai), 39, went missing from the Centara Coconut Beach Resort on the island's south western tip on April 21st.

Yesterday on the one month anniversary of her disappearance father Sergei Abuknova decided to turn to magic to get some results.

He went to a fortune teller who said that they saw his daughter under a large tree on a mountainside and that he should make an offering in the hills to the spirits of the area.

So along with the police he took a boiled chicken, some white spirit, flowers and 16 incense sticks up into the hills to appeal for help from the spirits.

Unfortunately even this failed to show up any sign of his daughter.

Police have been searching the paths and using CCTV footage to try and get a lead without success.

The provincial police chief has now ordered a step up in the search.

Daily News reported that the missing woman was a member of a cult seeking enlightenment. She exhibited strange behavior and believed that she was the reincarnation of Indian mystic Sai Baba.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 191, 1155 or 0774210977

That should help narrow down the search...

I'm proposing "bluesofa's law": The time gap between initially reporting to the police a crime/incident, until they "step up the search" is inversely proportional to the publicity generated on social media.

it will be ok in a few decades time when they learn to use search and rescue sniffer dogs.boiled chicken and incense definitely aint  going to do it.the family don't sound 100%,the fathers into Thai voodoo and the daughter thinks she some reborn mystic god.

too little, too late,it was a week before they reluctantly started the search

for her.

Laughing at a tragedy is unconscionable.... making an unconscionable act laughable, is even worse.

but then, perhaps in order to get the police to move forward, visiting a witch doctor had to be crossed off the affirmative action checklist.

Knowing how the police minds' work, I could imagine their first question: Which doctor was that?

Should have just lied a bit and said he last heard from her when she called to say she had the winning lottery numbers for June's draw. She'd be located by lunchtime by eager Thais with lottery fever.  I know my own wife would be out there !

He's obviously clueless as to the ability of the RTP, otherwise he'd have gone to the voodoo doctor first

I doubt she has ever been OK by the sounds of things

Turning up alive would be good though
