Video: Appalling driving but guilty party gets off scot free!

Dash cam footage from the Chiang Mai to Pai road on Sunday showed a yellow plated minivan overtake another van in front.

This caused an oncoming van to swerve into the hard shoulder, lose control and smash into the dash cam car.

An appeal has been made to try and find the van that was largely responsible for the accident.

It happened at kilometer marker 5 about 11.30 am.

The footage was posted on the page of Waritnan Khamlao and shared to YouLike (clip det).

When your too stupid and viscous to drive mototaxi, you must drive van.   Roadside execution may be only solution.

  • The reason the van on the shoulder lost control is because it did a hard right turn to get back on the road

Yep. Nothing new. Yellow line means you can overtake just like pedestrian crossing means speed up, red light means keep going etc.

What is appalling? Is that the news most popular word this month? Tis is nothing short of normal in Thailand. It happens on a daily basis as a normal thing on the thai roads.
There is a reason why they are number 1 in the world on the roads!

Up to that point he seemed to be observing the solid central lines  then  it told him it was OK to overtake!

Shit driving by both vans, the oncoming van had plenty of space and didn't to go so far off the road to begin with.

I am amazed that there is no mention of anyone being hurt though.

There IS NO hard shoulder.....just gravel/dirt.

so why state that driver had to drive into hard shoulder.....

Bad reporting AGAIN !!

Try climbing even a 3" lip at 80km/hr and you'll quickly discover that you don't need to make a hard right, because the road does that for you.

The 2nd best thing he could have done is to stay on the shoulder and slow down before even attempting to get back on the road.

Of course, the very best thing he could have done is to not get anywhere near the turd who forced him off the road.

I witness this every day during the school run. Thankfully the only damage so far has been to my aircon (ruptured by debris when a lorry in opp lane lost its load!).

The dash cam car hurt for sure!

Amazing Thailand, again and again. Amazing stupidity countless number of times per day. When idiots study to be morons, there are no failiers.

For years over here I have been wanting a T shirt with a pic of a minibus on it , underneath saying   ' Forgive them they know not what they do '. Someone get them printed , I will have several .

this happens with many thai drivers as they are totally impatient and do not like having to slow down for other cars or obey road rules, the van drivers are especially bad and refuse to slow down etc. The oncoming  van should have slowed but didnt and the overtaking van should have waited till he had a straight section with no oncoming traffic. Nothing new here, this is an everyday occurrence, the thai driver arrogance and impatience is on display constantly on the roads

People get away with this behaviour as there is no enforcement of driving standards, insurance and repairs are relatively cheap, as is concern for life.

The financial and criminal penalties are so high in the West, people are frightened into taking care. As prosperity increases here, so costs may also rise to match.

Oncoming van at fault...

Plenty of room for 3 vans there, no need for him to go off road and lose control !!!

School boy error !!!

The CM to Pai route is like the minivan Le Mans of Thailand. If looking for euthanasia, sit up in the front.

Looks like the road markings are at fault too. Should show no overtaking on a bend..

But the crash van did over cook it....

You're confusing being at fault, and missing out on the last clear chance to avoid the accident.

It may be clear that he had enough room with a nice case of hindsight and benefit of the dash cam, but counting on having enough room when your butt cheeks are like rocks and the closing speed is 200km/hr is just asking to die.

The last clear chance to avoid the accident belonged to the oncoming van, and he did choke.  But the fault was with the van who violated right of way.

Yes, nothing worse than a viscous [sic] driver.

Viscous?

"having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid; having a high viscosity."

ie thick ?

those sandy sides are death traps, the van forced him out on it,

this is standard procedure in cambodia, forcing every bike out in the sand.
