Police investigating the 12 million baht theft of watches and gold from a safe in Klong Jan, Bangkok, are hot on the heels of the suspects.

Two men took a taxi from Wat Thep Lila to the house of an advisor from the Marshall Islands in Soi Yothin Pattana on Friday night.

The taxi driver was given a mobile phone for directions and spoke to someone he believed was a Chinese man who could speak Thai.

The phone was left in the cab and he was given instructions to return in an hour for a pick up.

Police found where the suspects were staying near their taxi pick-up.

One is believed to have left the country to China.

The other remains in the country.

Met police chief Charnthep Sisawech said he knows who they are.

Investigations continue with immigration and customs at Suvarnabhumi to see if the valuables were on the plane. They want to know if they were X-Rayed at the airport.

Stolen were 28 Rolex watches and 2 kilos of gold.

Warrants are expected shortly with the police in touch with their Chinese counterparts.

Has anybody asked to the origin of the 28 Rolexes and the 2kg gold? have they been imported legally into the country? and if so, for what purposes?

it looks like an inside job, whereby the perpetrators new of the loot where about and how to get to it...

A Malaysian man is in custody in Bangkok in relation to a burglary in Bang Kapi district in which valuables belonging to three Marshall Islands businessmen were stolen.

The three victims told Lat Phrao police on Saturday that the house they rented had been broken into the night before and valuables and cash worth a combined Bt12 million were stolen.

The Malaysian man, whose name has not been released, was allegedly identified on CCTV camera recordings in the neighbourhood.

He was arrested on Sunday night at Don Mueang Airport about to leave the country, a police source said on Monday.

The source said he confessed to being one of three burglars, but insisted the stolen goods were still in Thailand.

Arrest warrants were being sought for the alleged accomplices.

The three businessmen claimed their security safe was pried open.

Five gold necklaces worth Bt3 million, five gold necklaces with jade pendants worth Bt300,000, 28 Rolex watches worth Bt4.2 million, a Buddha amulet with gold necklace worth Bt5 million, and US$4,000 (Bt120,000) in cash were stolen.

They said they left the house at 7.30pm on Friday for a business meeting and returned to find their house had been burglarised.

Three businessmen with anything but a low profile? I can spot values too on a lucky day.

I am suspicious that these 3 men needed all this expensive stuff stored in their rental

in the first place. Safety deposit boxes are not that expensive in Thailand.

Hope they became wiser from this experience.
