Public support sought for diabetic mother with three young children

By The Nation

A local administration and hospital have stepped in to help a diabetic single mother who is struggling to care for three sons – one who is disabled and bed-ridden, a newborn with eye problems and a five-year-old in school in Surin.

The mayor of Tambon Tamiang Administration and the director of the Ban Nong Khanya community hospital visited Nittaya Doohaidee, 29, in Moo 9 village in Tambon Tamiang in Surin's Phanom Dong Rak district on Tuesday morning.

Mayor Thawatchai Ratanasongkram said officials from his administration have been taking care of the family since they found out about the mother's plight shortly after the birth of her youngest son three months ago.

Thawatchai said the tambon administration would improve the family's house because it would be dangerous for the ailing mother to carry her bed-ridden 10-year-old son up and down stairs to his bedroom.

He said more help from the public would be welcomed.

Sawong Matpanon, director of the community hospital, said the hospital sent staff to take care of the family regularly as the mother is suffering from diabetes while her three-month-old son is having problems with his eyes.

Sawong said the baby could not be breast-fed because the mother has diabetes so the donations of baby food would be welcomed.

Nittaya's healthy five-years-old son is studying in Ban Tamiang school.

Nittaya said her husband was killed in a motorcycle accident a day before their youngest son was born. He was riding his motorcycle to visit her at the hospital when the accident occurred.

She said her eldest son was born with a disability and her family could not afford to send him to hospital so he has been bed-ridden.

She appealed for donations of baby food and adult diapers for the eldest son as she has no way of earning an income and survives on a monthly allowance for the disabled from the government.

So why aren't the local temples helping her?

Oh sorry I forgot they're too busy poncing off of poor villagers to buy laptops & gild their graven images of Buddha to contribute...

Buddha would turn in his grave if he had one if he could see what is done in his name here....

Yes, these temples recieve hundreds of thousands to help the poor, but in my 20 years here, I've never read about the temple helping anyone.
