What Did You Do Today ?

Featured Replies

Been back in England for a few days now. Today was my get settled day.

Went into a variety of job/housing/Banking agencies and said pretty much the same to all...

I've been in Thailand, Cambodia and Guatemala for the past TEN years and I've just arrived to move back to England after all these time doing dubious things in dubious places.

Still, after some attempts, I found one very posh housing agency that was intrigued and will help me, and an equally posh recruitment agency that will try to see if they maybe might could possibly dubiously help.

But a British Citizen can not deposit a modest sum of cash in a british bank account until I have those things. Very frustrating.

What you should have done was claimed to not be English, pretended not to speak any English ..... and 'presto' ... flat and colour TV almost instantly. :o

you know, you are not wrong. that's a very valid argument in your advice. I may have to get out one of my other passports. ... it's a p1sstake if you ask me.. I'll give it a few weeks.

We had a young coconut tree with a trunk about one and a half metres tall and it was looking sick so my wife said there are probably bugs in it and my uncle said aroi aroi....so we proceeded to tear that tree trunk apart (it was nothing but chewed up fibres on the inside) and from it collected a couple dozen really big grubs (about 4 cm long and maybe 2 cm in diameter) and maybe twice as many oval shaped beetles that were about the same size (maybe only 3 cm long) with orange heads and thorax and black abdomen with long thin orange snout. The grubs were busy grubbing out (naturally) the inside of the tree and the beetles were inside little homespun cocoons made by wrapping some of the plant fibres around themselves. Seems like we had the entire life cycle of this insect going on right there inside this tree.....and.....the best part is......its all edible and tastes great!!! My aunt (the uncles wife of course) fried these critters up and we ate some and the grubs are argueably the best insect item I've ever eaten...soft, the outside is chewy but tender and the inside is creamy and tastes a tiny bit like peanut butter...or rather its has a quality that is remeniscent of peanut butter flavor wise.....really good. The beetles you tear off all the hard pieces first (wings, legs, and head) and then eat what's left and they are good too but, like most beetles, they are a bit gritty.

If you ever get a chance to eat the big palm tree grubs I would say definitely go for it....they are on my to do list for sure.

MacB, if you are reading this - take no notice of what anyone says. You post what you want, you are tad more interesting than the confabulators that come and go.

My morning so far has been a bit ho hum. Had a leg wax and eyelash dye, haircut and dry, manicure and pedicure and am just getting ready to go to talk to youngest daughter's teacher about her behaviour. YIKES!
