IAMHERE
So the OP expects a random tourist to kick her Yorkie, again. What is she or the doing that she expects this to occur mote than this 'one off'. I believe that dog is a lot more agressive than she realizes. By the way any barking dog may have rabies; you don't want to take the chance of a dog bite in Thailand or anywhere else. Your question has been answered, by people with long experience of living here. Unless your precious pooch was injured there's nothing you can do, and even if it was, in a country where people trafficking is common, children are forced into prostitution every day, hundreds are killed in road accidents every week, rural poverty is rife and personal freedom is under threat, do you really think the authorities have the time or energy to help you extract revenge for the hurt fellings of a pet? 2

You will make a rich lawyer even richer while babies, the disabled and puppies stolen from their mothers are forced into street begging. You have been here long enough to see the realities of living in a developing country, yet you feel you this is how you spend your money. Really? 5 1
Popular Post seajae
for some reason the op refuses to state if the dog was on a leash, if it was not on a leash and it ran at/up to someone they are within their rights to do something to protect themselves as they do not know if it is going to bite them, its the owners responsibility as dogs running free are a danger(strangers dont know if they are friendly or not). Any decent/responsible dog owner would not allow their dog to run off a leash outside their yard, every time our dog went out of our yard it was on a leash and we would make sure it didnt try to go near anyone else, if a dog runs at you as far as most people think it is attacking them and they are allowed to protect themselves(as in this case), if your dog was jumping on or approaching the tourist he was within his rights to do it, you are the guilty party here if it wasnt leashed or you allowed it to jump on or approach him. In future only allow it out on a leash and keep it restrained, some people simply dont like dogs and it is your responsibility to keep it away from everyone else, I like dogs but I dont want then jumping on me when they are not mine, the fact they kicked it would suggest they didnt want it on them, you need to be more responsible. As for your question, if he went after it and deliberately attacked/kicked it he is at fault but if the dog approached him he is not, you are 7

Except for guide dogs or other working dogs, nobody 'needs' to have a dog. Similar to smokers, drone pilots, noisy bike owners and durian eaters - it"s your responsibility to not cause your hobby to impact on other people's lives. It's about time...............a voice of reason. I don't dislike dogs that are well kept pets, but I have a huge problem with their owners sometimes. 5
Popular Post canuckamuck
I think the OP should involve the police. The are very few situations in Thailand that cannot be improved by the interaction of the RTP. I am sure the Op will be ever so pleased with the results.

Juan B Tong
Julia, Look dear, I didn't kick your dog and I am not a tourist. It you controlled the little doggie better it wouldn't have run up to me and gotten tangled up in my feet. I almost tripped and fell! I have enough trouble getting about with my walking stick and adding a pooch to the mix makes it dangerous. Also stop bitching at me for smoking down in the pool area. It is allowed here at the condo. And on a personal note, please stop peeing in the pool and pick up all of your puppy's poop not just the terds outside of your door. Lacessit
Bad dogs are made that way by bad owners. They have a blind spot regarding their furry friends. Put simply, if the tourist kicked the dog without any provocation, then there's a case for cruelty. Getting that prosecuted is another matter. If the dog charged the tourist, tripped him or attempted to bite, then he was fully entitled to fend it off by any means he chose - including a kick.

wildewillie89
There are punishments, and yes, I think they are more serious than if you kick a person. One of the officials at my wife's work loves dogs. One of the staff used to kick the office dogs. He said to him if I ever see you do it again I will be calling the police. The guy never did it again. In this case, surely the tourist has already disappeared, or is hard to find, so no point coming to TV...you would have had to have acted there and then. If the dog was leashed then the tourist would have had to go out of his way to kick it (so he has been cruel). Don't get kicking dogs to protect yourself from rabies. Scare it away with a long bamboo stick and keep a distance. Kicking it is just giving the dog a chance to bite as you are entering its space. After rereading you maybe will discover that similar to what @wildewillie89 said "do not kick dogs". And special do not kick them when they can not see what is happening. Arjen. Maybe some day they will let you be alpha for a while. 1
Popular Post wildewillie89
As Arjen said, it was his actions that caused the behaviour, not the dogs (especially if the dog is old, probably thought it was another dog). He understands he did wrong and will learn from it - as we all do. It is why medical groups (vet associations) tell you to train yourself up on how to interact with dogs and read dogs body language, as this is what will lead to lowering bite stats, not banning 'dangerous dogs' (which parliamentary inquires are finding hasn't worked). The alpha theory is debated. The old timers believe it, but new techniques and new research thinks otherwise. Many dog packs that are followed change alphas quite often. One study of a pack of 27 roaming dogs in Italy found that 6 dogs took it in turns of leading the pack. Alpha is chosen depending on the situation and how it will benefit the pack. It is a bit like children, in the past we hit them and focused on the negative behaviour. Now research tells us to focus on the positive behaviour, as usually the negative discipline (kicking), is actually giving the dog/child what they want. Misbehaving to get some form of attention regardless if positive or negative. It is why the medical, research, training bodies are annoyed with Cesar Milan. Uses old research to justify techniques. People in their homes watch it, use it, get bitten as usually they have fake confidence (wrong energy) as they are doing it. Regardless of what techniques people use, beating the crap out of a dog will not establish alpha position. It will create a scared dog that one day will bite back. For those who do follow the alpha rule (which I am sure we have all done at some point in our lives), simply putting a dog on its back for a belly rub is establishing dominance (what people who interact with hyenas do), not letting the dog in doorways or out gates before you, making him work for what he wants, setting house rules (what rooms the dog is allowed and not allowed in) etc. Edited June 5, 2018 by wildewillie89 1

Then more logically, ok to smash a snake to buggery but not a dog?
