If you don't like football - tough luck!

As the World Cup kicks off in Russia this evening Thai time one thing is for sure in football crazy Thailand for the next four and a half glorious weeks.

It will be football, football, football...and a bit more football!

Pattaya News reported that the famed Walking Street in the Thai resort was no different to any other night time entertainment area in the kingdom.

The bars and nightclubs are looking resplendent in the colors and flags of the 32 nations that will compete in the once every four years FIFA showpiece. And anticipation was at fever pitch.

The 21st edition of the world's biggest sporting event will feature 64 games over 32 days. The matches will be played in 12 stadiums across 11 cities.

There are expected to be three billion viewers worldwide with a huge number of Thais glued to TV screens both at home and out in special venues and clubs and restaurants.

Hosts Russia kick off against Saudi Arabia in the first match today starting at 10 pm Thai time. But you can warm up earlier with the opening ceremony.

For those who don't like football - and it is rumored there are a handful - your misery will end with the final on July 15th.

Pattaya News added that the local constabulary and tourist police will be patrolling to make sure everyone has a wonderful time over the next month.

What is the time difference from Russia to Thailand, that will play a big part in watching the games in the bars

There usually are three matches daily. The first kicks off at 7 pm Thai time, the second at 10 pm, and the last at 1 am. So I guess there will be quite a few venues that have received "special permission" (tied to the usual "special fee" collected by the local plod, of course) to stay open longer in order to accommodate that last match of the day.

Different time zones in Russia. Moscow and Bangkok is 4 hours with Bangkok being 4 hours later. Siberia it is only 1 hour difference. Spasibo!

Harry Kane, Delli Ali, Rose, Dier, Trippier....I call them Spurs.

COYS

Those lads have more chance of a world cup winners medal than winning anything with

the spuds.

All they had to do to win the league a couple of years back was to finish above

Leicester city but in glorious tradition effed it up!!

I do not like foreign "football" but I like soccer.

Should be a lot of fun go enjoy..

But the only foreign football is the american version. Wrong shaped ball, wrong rules, wrong goal shape and too much foam. They also don't use their feet very much so the name is just wildly inappropriate. Better call it overpaid fat blokes playing with an oval ball. The English Football association was started in 1863 while the US version (which is actually a rugby derivative) can barely get back to 1869.

Just ignore it.  Like Songrkan.

Easier to ignore than Songkran!

Just 22 bags of air chasing a bag of air about on a TV that can easily be switched off!

Sorted! ?
