Awesome. Good news for the OP that is trying to open up a bank account in 2018.

I don't think it has changed that much, just go in with some cash, tell them that your pensions will be coming in along with the occasional foreign currency transfer, and don't baffle them with unnecessary paperwork, as long as you have a visa to remain, Marriage or Retirement should suffice.

Yes, it has changed much.

More than you imagine.

I could tell you my account was open in 2011 at Kasikorn on tourist visa. So?

It's totally hardcore nowadays, the bad English speaking Bank staff that play Line all day long on their smart phones have a fixation with this "work permit" word. No matter what visa you have. Even if you are a pensioner. You have to take it up to the manager.

Tourist visa, gotta have a good story and many branches / banks to try.

Try Sisaket. There's an old saga, if you get there by train you'll never leave. You can check out any time you like. but you can never leave.

Sorry, but they've told you so much rubbish, that's impossible to believe.

If foreigners don't marry Thai women and they all go home, the country will suffer.

We spend a lot of more money in this country than the average Thai. Of course are there exceptions. Don't give up and please write a more positive story next time.
