ISOC Buriram develops proactive approach to deforestation prevention

BURIRAM, 28th June 2018 (NNT)-The Internal Security Operation Command (ISOC) in Buriram has jointly developed a district-level deforestation prevention plan with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment as well as local authorities, to prevent illegal logging and forest trespassing.

The Buriram ISOC Office held a meeting recently in Buriram province to develop the plan with relevant agencies with the aim being to promote the efficiency of natural resource management and deforestation prevention. Buriram ISOC Deputy-Director Jadeth Nuanmanee says deforestation has been an on-going problem in Buriram although efforts have continuously been made to tackle the issue.

He added farmers continued to use certain areas in the protected forests for farming activities while forest officials lacked an understanding of the master deforestation prevention plan. The Buriram ISOC Deputy-Director said later that the district-level approach will involve greater participation by local residents and organizations in protecting forests and natural resources in an ongoing manner.
