Cheaper golf around Khon Kaen

Hello I'm looking  for some informational please.

My Mrs and I play the Thai navy and marine course in Sattahip which are very cheap comparative to other golf courses in that area   and at the moment are visiting our family in Khaosuankwang 55 K north of Khon kaen.

We both like to walk and  play without a caddy.

Can anyone tell us  if  and where there maybe similar similar  Royal Thai services golf courses in  the  Khon Kaen  area ?

if there are no such courses available then I will be playing at Ubol  Ratana as a "singleton" so anyone wanting to pair up with a very fit and active  plus 70 year old with a 20 handicap is very welcome

Please "private message" me  for phone number etc

There is an Army course close to Khon Kaen Airport.

Also one south of the city near to Singha Park called Sribrirak but is known by most as The Ag (agricultural). Quite difficult to find first time but is a decent and very cheap 9 hole course. You can walk either of these easily but don't know if you can play without caddies. Fees are cheap though.

This link will tell you most of what you need to know.

Thank you Wilai

for the reply and the link, I will certainly have a  look after I answer this post.

In the event and not knowing where to go or even who to ask I just looked up golf courses in  Google maps for the area from KK to Udon Thani.

The nearest golf course on the map was a place at Kumphawapi, which was OK  becasue t was only 30 K North or so from our village of Khao suan kwang.

However there was no information available on this place just a name on the map!

We decided to take a chance and Thursday set off quite early to check the place out.

We arrived but  alas there was no golf course there, what a disappointment !

(However there was a  working driving range admittedly in very poor condition just a few Ks further up the road past the ghost golf course  on the right hand side, we had a couple of boxes of balls at 30 Baht a box)

And so I decided to bite the bullet and go to Ubolratana  alone the following day (Yesterday Friday) take a caddy and play! (My Thai lady wife isn't against Caddies she just does not like the payment part)

As it turned out I had a brilliant game , a young man  caddy called "Bot"  who was excellent and knew his distances and greens  very well,  his lack of language was more than made up by his smiling and enthusiastic attitude .

I started walking at about 8 45 am and finished around 12 noon,  not having to lug my quite heavy bag around was quite illuminating becasue  after walking 18 holes pulling the damn thing normally leaves me mentally and physically exhausted !

Yesterday I felt as though I could have done another 9 holes so Caddies are now back on my agenda .

After the game I had a shower and in the locker room met up with two chaps who were part of a larger  group from Udon Thani who played Ubol twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays.

I was invited to join them and will next Tuesday, when they meet up at the course at  7 45 am.

All in all a very good day !

PS

the ground condition  at Ubolratan was great with the fairways wide clear and the greens  fast (Well compared to what I normally play on)

Cost of 18 holes walking was 300 Baht

Cost of caddy 18 hole was      200 Baht

  • 3 weeks later...

I was in Khon Kaen a couple of weeks ago and played with some friends at Dancoon. It's not very far from the Khon Kaen airport. I think it cost 1050 Baht including caddy and buggie. Course was quite good.
