Mailing Your Passport Out Of Thailand For A Third

Featured Replies

If you are traveling from Thailand to a country that doesn't have an embassy or consulate in Thailand and you need a visa to travel to that country, it is legal to mail your passport out of Thailand to get the visa? Not talking about mailing it out to get a Thai visa, which I know is illegal.

Wouldn't it technically be illegal to mail it out for any reason because you are supposed to carry your passport at all times (which most people of course don't do)?

It's illegal to post passports across borders (and inadvisable) as well as you should have your passport available at all times when visiting a foreign country.

When I have needed to get a Visa as in your example they have posted a loose leaf visa to me but I dont know if your country in question will do that.

Also some countries that do not have embassies in a country will have an embassy of another country handle their affairs on their behalf.

It depends on the countries involved, you would need to contact the embassy of the country for which visa you want.

Example. There is no thai Embassy in Fiji, so the thai Embassy in Brisbane Australia (and possibly other embassies in Australia) hold the authority to offer Thai visas to people from Fiji. This is what i was told by the consul general in Brisbane when I asked him a similar question that you are asking here.

Another small problem is that your passport will show that you applied for/ were granted a visa in a country but you actually have no exit or re entry stamps for Thailand and the other country.

At the time the visa was granted you were still in Thailand and there is no exit visa to show that you had left.

It would only take one immigration official who is bored or alert or just having a bad day to pick that up and then you may be in biiig trouble.

Just a small thought.

edited for very bad spelling
