mommysboy Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Can anyone 'decipher' this? http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11218566/uefa-nations-league-explained-how-new-format-could-aid-euro-2020-qualification It seems to pit equivalent teams in actual competition as opposed to meaningless friendlies. It's sure to change the dynamics of nation v club football. And I'm sure younger players will either need to be used by their countries. It could be great news for us national team enthusiasts. I'm not sure how it works though, and I can't really see that it is a whole lot different from the existing tournament.
FritsSikkink Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Nothing to do with club football or younger players. Full League A draw Group 1: Germany, France, Netherlands Group 2: Belgium, Switzerland, Iceland Group 3: Portugal, Italy, Poland Group 4: Spain, England, Croatia top nr. 1 from each group play each other for Nations League champion. nr. 3 of the group go 1 league lower. Other groups, nr. 1 promotes, nr. 3 goes down.
Bredbury Blue Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Looks a better idea than playing friendlies. Teams of supposed equal ranking play each other in a league format. Bottom team relegated. Top team promoted. Top team is A league is the winner of the 'playoff' trophy. Played bi-annually. Something off interest for football fans to watch. What's not to like?
