Many roads in Thailand’s Mukdahan province have become impassable following a flash flood caused by overnight rain.

Mukdahan Governor Paitoon Rakpratet visited the Ban Na Lak community in Dong Luang district to inspect flood damage. Many rice and rubber plantations have been submerged and roads to several communities have been cut off.

The governor was accompanied by Dong Luang district chief Wattana Charoenchit and local officials.

The governor asked local agencies to assist those in need and speed up drainage of floodwater, stressing that all roads and streets must be passable in case of an emergency.

Mukdahan officials said the water level in Mekong River on Saturday reached a high of 11.44 metres whereas the critical level is 12.5 metres.

Local officers and residents are on high alert for a second round of inundation.
