Incredible US banking ineptness
Sorry, I was responding to the other post about opening US bank accounts from Thailand. Wise isn't a bank and I would certainly never put a substantial amount of money in it. -

Field trips don’t hurt students, poorly-maintained transport does : PM
Meanwhile out the front of most schools around 3pm everyday the wildest collection of jaloppies patiently wait for kids to take them home. With rusted bodies, bald tyre's and no windows off they depart belching smoke crabbing down the highway with kids hanging off the back and driven by unskilled retired farmers. When you point out the defects it's met with a smile and 'maimee tang'. <sigh> -

Thai School Cancels Field Trip After Tragic Bus Fire Incident
My wife’s teenage niece who lives with us went on one for the day yesterday and had a great day returning home safe and sound. Out on a half day trip as we speak now. Why on earth ban them. -

Vehicle Inspector Removed Amid Deadly School Bus Fire Probe
Nothing in the OP or the original article says anyone was actually removed. In the SiamRath article this story was translated from, the headline is:"ด่วน! สั่งเด้ง “หัวหน้านายช่างตรวจสภาพรถ” ขนส่งสิงห์บุรี เซ่นบัสนักเรียนไฟไหม้ พร้อมตั้งคณะกรรมการสอบข้อเท็จจริง". Google translate isn't the greatest when it comes to translating Thai to English (or the other way around), but it translates that headline into: "Urgent! Order to dismiss "Chief Vehicle Inspector" of Singburi Transport as a sacrifice for the school bus fire, along with setting up a fact-finding committee". Meanwhile, nothing in the article says anyone was dismissed. Just that 2 senior officials were assigned to investigate. "assigning two civil servants, one in the position of head of the department (an experienced vehicle inspection technician) and one in the vehicle inspection division of the Singburi Provincial Transport Office, to assist in official duties at the Department of Land Transport to ensure that the fact-finding investigation proceeds smoothly." And as I mentioned on the Facecrook post, a lot of people will jump and shout in front of the cameras for the next week promising changes and enforcement and standards (yadda yadda) and then a week later it will be back to "business as per normal". Just like happens after every nightclub/hotel/shopping mall fire where dozens are killed. -

Thai marriage visa is there a background check
How does it minimize visits to immigration in Thailand? Do you still have to check in every 90 days with an evisa? Do I apply for it through that Thailand evisa website? Thank you -

Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
Boomers have had it so easy with jobs, housing and pensions. My dad is always talking about how he worked so hard for 40 years. In reality he had a easy office job, half days on fridays, often had long lunches on the golf course, was never in later than 5pm. Those kind of jobs don't exist anymore. Someone in the same circumstances these days would just about be able to afford to rent a small 2 bed on 2 adults working. House is now worth over a million (5 bed detached SE england), mum never had to work and they are bitterly complaining about the winter fuel payment taken away despite having an income in retirement of about 70k and no housing costs. They're taking out way more than they ever paid in to the system and are under some impression they're hard done by. -

'Damning non-answer': Vance refuses to acknowledge Trump lost the 2020 election
Please provide a link where Hillary alleges voter fraud in 2016. As for crazy people who believed Trump, that's a reflection on their intelligence. I'm sure you never believed Rudy's crazy lies.- 1

Trump Challenges Special Counsel's Evidence Release in Election Case
Opening sentences of the above linked document: GOVERNMENT'S MOTION FOR IMMUNITY DETERMINATIONS The defendant asserts that he is immune from prosecution for his criminal scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election because, he claims, it entailed official conduct. Not so. Although the defendant was the incumbent President during the charged conspiracies, his scheme was fundamentally a private one. Working with a team of private co-conspirators, the defendant acted as a candidate when he pursued multiple criminal means to disrupt, through fraud and deceit, the government function by which votes are collected and counted a function in which the defendant, as President, had no official role. -

Anutin Denies Influencing Senate on Referendum Rule Change
Putting aside the particulars of Thailand's recent history, the rule - in ANY country - that you need 50%+ turnout of voters and 50%+ approval votes seems perfectly sensible. You don't change a constitution on a whim.
