Pushy bars

Featured Replies

I know beer bars are quiet but my pet peeve of the week ,well last night actually was going into bars and constantly being asked if i want another drink.

i know,i know beer bars profit is through us customers drinking ,but at least let me finish the drink.!!

I went to 5 bars last night and 3 of them were that pushy i left,

the other 2 you could relax in and drink to your hearts content and they were busy with customers and nice atmosphere with farang owners talking to customers .

But those 3 I went to that were pushy even taking the bottle from my hand and shaking it to see if its empty, and when i refused another drink, she came back every 2 minutes to ask the same question i just said i am out of here,i just cant drink that much that quick,i apologise

Look i know they probably get farang customers who sit in a bar on one drink all night and watch the world go by or even farang customers who buy one drink and talk to the owner for hours but im sure they must know it gets annoying to be asked every few mimutes if i want another drink.

Now is this just me or do u ever e xperience it too,?

I told my workmate who is on holiday with me and he claims he never has them ask him?

maybe im going mad ?  even i got a bit firm with the lady waitress last night saying NO loudly  as I only had this drink 5 minutes but she still kept coming back to shake the bottle.

i even had a nightmare last night where i could hear their voices” you want another drink darling? You want another drink “

ummm no thanks im still holding this one that i bought off you 3 minutes ago

There are a number of shops in Central with this policy, it has cost some of them dearly, I dislike intensely being followed, almost paranoid, and I go elsewhere to purchase. I know what I want to buy

  • Do the polite thing and drink it from a glass then they can see what you have left. Drinking from bottles is so lo-so

  • She should be shaking her booty and not your bottle. What is Pattaya  barlife coming to?

  • Popular Post

It's what they are told to do so no point getting mad at the poor staff. But I agree it gets annoying. Mention it to the manager is all I can suggest. Or do as you did and talk with your feet and move on.

Of course your right its not the staffs fault as they have been told and i noticed one bar where there was a farang owner who watched his staff do this and i counted 3 people including me in the bar.

its not a good way to do business ,in the long term you lose.

hey man

thats the way bars are here. happens to me all the time.

having a beer or coconut from a beach chair vendor is much more relaxing. just pay the chair fee usually 50 baht and you never need to worry about rushing because youve paid to sit as long as you like

someone asking all the time about buying more after you give a firm no is bs

It is the nature of the beast.....just roll with the punches and get a ticket out of the  shi*hole.....lol....???

I once almost begged a sales staff member to please stop following me around the shop.  ...."The owner is sitting at the back of the shop and if I don't push stuff on customers she will confront me afterwards for not earning the wages she pays me every month,...she will tell me that she is not paying me to stand around and doing nothing".

   So....there you have it.

sales assistant . who has no English skills trying to converse with me.

Even worse than the girl asking if you want another drink is the persistent girl saying "You buy me drink !" when you have been in the bar for 5 minutes and had one sip from your bottle !  "You buy  for my friend too" " Why ?" You no like me ?"  Only one reply.......<deleted>  off !  Finish beer and leave.  Find a nice bar and stay there.

Yes I agree some bars are a bit pushy. I found that in Hua Hin a few times so I check bin and move on. I still find more annoying than the above is bloody annoying kids flogging rubbish flowers. One after another. You still see them at 2am. Valentine’s Day stay well away

I don't drink or go into bars. That leaves me more time and more money to pursue life's opportunities. Belonging to a non-drinkers circle provides plenty of social interaction.

Sure. It might be what the staff have been told to do.  But if it annoys you, you have the right to be annoyed. And say so.

Yes you can yell at them or tell them to back off. And if they don't like it its their choice to stay employed there.

If the profits drop because of this, then it's the managers/owners fault.

I'm sure the staff if they went to a bar on their day off and this happened, they'd get annoyed too

I can think of worse things in life. Fish Spa in CM - 5 seperate 'ladies' demanded i buy them drinks when individyally approaching me. First words all of them said  to me.

I boycotted the establishment. Utter rudeness and 100% unnaceptable.

I'd reply no I don't like you.

Do you like me? Am I hansum man?

Yes!

Great, why don't you buy me one!

And watch them walk away in utter confusion

Well, some may say that is good service. At least they are checking, and all you have to say is "No"

Why would anyone enter a bar full of prostitutes, if they didn't want to play with the girls?

Plenty of bars full of men to drink in.

I do all my drinking at home now, nobody pestering me, and the beer costs half the price.

he tried saying "no" and they kept coming at him, very common in thailand not just at bars but all over. its bs llke someone else already said.

First too little service then too much service.

Never the twain shall meet.

I know it’s their job to push the drinks and asking doesn’t bother me that much.

What does really irritate me is if they pick up my bottle and shake it to see if there is any left.

think your first sentence should be;

I'd reply yes I don't like you.  that's how Thais say it, me thinks

when I'm done with my business in BKK I often visit a bar or 2 before going home to the suburbs

normally with a drink and reading my newspaper

do I hate it when I'm frequently asked for drink sponsoring

though, I find most bars in lower Sukh to be OK

Well, it certainly beats being 20 deep at a bar, whilst trying to attract the barmaids attention.

I have been in SEA for over 50 years and in Thailand over that entire time, I have had many drink  maidens come up to ask if I wanted another; I have never had to get mad to make them go away. Sorry if you have a problem.

I don't know how so many can have so many problems; perhaps it is your lack of imagination or not knowing how you handle it. If a girl persists asking me to buy her a drink, I simply turn it around. I ask her to buy one for me and for all my friends. Most will say no. Then I ask, "Why, you no like me?  Usually, they walk away; sometimes they will make a joke, "Ok, I buy, you pay."  The smarter ones, will make a deal, "I buy you drink, you buy me drink."  Of course, if you don't care to play banter with them, just say no and look the other way, or at another girl.
