Mystery as Norwegian tourist, 28, found dead on Koh Samui

I was relieved to read the comments in this thread and see that I'm not the only one who was reading a report about the tragic death of a young man, and my first thought was 'Oooh, that's a Mk 1 Escort Mex ... would like to get my hands on that".

I think we're all getting numbed by unexplained deaths in Thailand.

But anyway - Escort Mexico - a legend for low-cost driving fun in it's time.

That's a Mk1 Escort Mexico (unless its got after market stickers). Who can I ask about buying it?

or after market cosmetic make-over with an engine change.

Everyone to his liking - but I usually answer at something - without reading all pages - sometimes a lot -

If double or fourfold - I not care - ??

Fine nobody cares but cant you see how boring it gets when people just repeat whats already been stated and cleared up, there again people like you just add to the entertainment

Its even better when you cant work out that I was taking the P@#s

Ok, can we please stop with the I want that car, what is it bull. Being a close friend to the young man who has died, I’m shocked at some of these thoughtless posts. I am currently helping his parents recover his body so that they can take him back to Norway to have a proper autopsy done and for them to bury there beloved son! The car will be sold, but not to any of you morons that have missed the whole point of this story and it truly tragic nature. RIP ESPEN (not aspen) YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED!!!

If as like you you know the subject of a thread on Thaivisa then try and do the sensible thing, which is the opposite of what you have done

There is nothing wrong with your POST, but its obvious your visit to this thread has upset you with the language you have used

So again what did you expect to read on here

There's at least one... the vehicle in the OP.

And I have seen others as well in Bangkok and Udon Thani.

Totally wrong, the Mk1 Escort Mexico was never imported to Thailand.

What you see are replicas. Standard Escorts made to look like RS2000s and Mexicos.

There are several in Thailand.

I have been in this car a few years ago, it was extremely well engineered.

Rest in peace Espen.

Quite agree - a young man has died but people seem to be more interested on what kind of a car he died  in? I'm surprised that there hasn't been a video of where the car was last seen!

How about a bit of respect, rather than these unwarranted, unsupported guesses at to what happened?

You dont appear to be new to Thaivisa

Try "the Mk1 Escort Mexico was never officially exported by Ford to Thailand"

Unless you work at the Customs department, how can you say what's never been privately imported?

Granted that Thailand is full of fakes and replicas and I agree that the several Escort's I have seen are bog standard Mk1's without the add-on frippery.... and probably a Nissan mill.

If we weren't debating the car, we would probably be debating much more personal matters with much more wild and offensive conjecture.

Correct - and a bit like yourself I get frustrated with some of the posters on here with their wild unfounded allegations and assumptions - also their seeming inability to read a post through before passing comment.

All of that goes with the territory I am afraid and you should be well aware of that

I will say that there is nothing out of order though in this thread as far as I am concerned

This bit is a bit cruel, but if you are not personally involved, then its sad yes, but now its gone

There is not much to go on with this one, young man dead, no third party, plus a clear explanation as to where he was during the last minutes of his life

This is an open forum as for speculation nothing else for it, nothing else to go on

Petrol heads are petrol heads as far as the vehicle goes nuff said for me

My involvment stems from my advice to the friend of the dead young man who was not best pleased with what he read on here

On reflection I did not make myself clear enough to a person whose mother tongue is not English

As he is assisting the parents of the deceased he will have given his condolences to them personally I would assume

If he still needed to Post them on here then I quite understand, but just click "reply to this topic" Post your message and get the hell out of here

Why would a close friend who was "emotionally involved want to read what is Posted on any open forum concerning the death of his friend

Not a good idea as his reaction has shown, but life goes on and it will be just the same when the bell tolls for me

Yes oldlakey I did jump the gun in my first post, however you can’t blame me for wanting to know what’s being said, as tv is quite a popular forum. This isn’t a rant or anything or any personal attack I was merely intrigued and my response reflected my mood and reaction of what I was reading. I think I have explained enough in the post previous to yours to satisfy mosts curiosity. Also my mother tongue is infact  English, born and bred but moved to what I deemed as better pastures. No offense taken after re reading all posts and no grudges held. Have a great life all, make everyday count!

Also possible that exhaust system was faulty on an old car and leaking carbon monoxide into the vehicle;  he remained in the car with the windows shut.  Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless and high concentrations lead to death in less than five minutes.

But easily detected as a cause of death as it causes one to turn a deep shade of pink not to confused with the redness of sunburn

So now that it has been made clear what type of a car it really is, and what actually did  cause the poor guy's demise, I suppose there is nothing more to "investigate " - but I am sure that some people on here will find something.

As you say, I have been here long enough to know that "it goes with the territory" but that doesn't excuse a lot of pointless, insensitive speculation that is still happening within this thread where people are still trying to blame it on the car - as per the post previous to yours!

Indeed there's a whole bunch of farangs in Thailand who crave to be classed as tourists.

...but treated differently.

...and not be called a tourist.

Also know some who have been here for years on tourist visas.

Yes it’s got UK number plates on it and the N registration was from the early 70s cannot believe that in all the years I have lived on Koh Samui I have never come across this vehicle .

No, it hasn't, the car with the blue stripes is not the car from the OP.

Yes, they do, young people die all the time, death is not restricted to old people.
