I have a NoN B visa, am employed as a customer service manager, i have a work permit. When i got my salary this month, (new job) i was taxed on a salary of 50k. my salary to start is 40k. my company said they have to tax me on earning 50k because of my visa. if they didn't do that i would have to leave every 3 months to do a visa run. i have been working as a teacher the past 2 yrs, with work permit on a non b and was never told anything about this/and never did any visa runs..

is it right that having a non b visa for a company rather than a school is different?

Depending on your nationality they are correct. To extend your stay requires an income of a specified amount. Teachers are an exception and have a much lower requirement.
