I just read about this in the Daily Mail.

It would surely help those of us with enlarged prostates. Let's hope it comes here, but as it's only being launched in the UK tomorrow , but I am sure that the big expensive hospitals in BK should have it soon after?

Well I would like to think so.

They quoted the cost as 5,000 GBP in the UK, have no idea what it would cost here, but from what I have read the benefits outweigh the cost.

If a Thai urologist was to offer this, they would typically need to get certified/trained in that procedure. For BPH the standard is directed microwaves but it leaves scaring, potential for blood clots and pain. The article didn't mention if this is just a new procedure or inconjunction with a new medical device. If there is a new medical device, they will have to go through the medical regulatory procedure in Thailand. Since this is an invasive procedure, new medical devices (with relevant data) can take up to a few years.

I don't know if they have Urolift in Thailand but I swear by it, I had my procedure carried out back in Sydney in 2013, cost $6,000AUS day procedure in a private hospital. I was in by 12pm and out by 6pm.

Prior to having the Urolift procedure carried out, I was peeing far too frequently and getting a good night's sleep was impossible, and if you like your morning coffee and beers at night, you would be going all day and night, however after the procedure it was like, why did this take me 3 years to get off my butt, probably my GP prescribing me Flomaxtra, and until a mate of mine suggested I see a Urologist, I suffered for it.

I had 4 inserts, the only thing I didn't enjoy afterwards, (my wife sympathising although in stitches from laughter), was the contractions, yes contractions, because when the drugs wear off, you have contractions, yep contractions, as if giving birth, and it's not a good feeling of which you don't have control over, but that only lasts about an hour and they give you all the lollies to take afterwards.

Would definitely recommend this procedure:

I have heard of Urolift and I think it is may actually may be better than this steam treatment. Urolift was recommended by my USA urologist but my insurance wouldn't cover as the hospital I used didn't have it available.

In usual form I had contacted a hospital here and the reception said they have it but of course that is BS. If you go to the Urolift web site USA, German, Australia and UK have it but not many other countries from what I remember.

Now that I'm in Thailand I am thinking I should probably go back to the USA and pay out of pocket for this procedure. I was quoted approx $4000 USD. I small price to pay for relief. It was developed in the USA and the company is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have heard many good things about it. I pee too much. I get up about 2 to 3 times at night and too much during the day.

They call the procedure "Rezum" in the UK, they  say (article dailymailonline) that the treatment gives you the maximum benefit after just 3 months

Not available here yet and it will likely take several years at least, several years being the usual time lag before treatments newly approved in the West reach Thailand. Could take longer.

I know that feeling, and as mentioned, after Urolift, I feel like a normal man peeing again, whereas before I was peeing, thinking I was peeing a lot, even though it felt like I was, in fact it wasn't, because the pressure was not as quick and fast as after having Urolift, hence the reason one would be going so frequently before the Urolift procedure.

I could have waited up to a year on the public system, but I was in the private hospital within 3 weeks and the cost of $6000AUS out of my pocket was worth every $.

The only downer for me after the procedure, is that I used to like my long range target practice, so if your into target practice, you won't reach your target after Urolift, please don't ask me to explain as I don't wish to be suspended ?

Have just read this article in the NZ Herald newspaper re Urolift and as you have said it has been available in Oz for a few years now...……….too late for me after having a TURP (with all its associated complications) done in Melbourne back in 2008, I'm afraid, but a trip to Oz could be an option for other folk here.

Unfortunately when you get to the point of obstruction it may be too late for UroLift. See under 'Patient selection' on this page:

"it is not suitable for patients with a history of urinary retention."

I have also been told this by two doctors in the UK.

Yes, I have been "qualified" for the treatment and even the prostate size is taken into account on whether a patient is able to get the procedure or not. apparently if it is too big, they won't do it.

Good news about HIFU though if I’m not mistaken candidates are limited, and I think it’s not on if u have an enlarged prostate over ?cc.

If it’s any consolation my prostate has reduced size on it’s own over quite a period of time, and I mean quite considerably, rarely woken up now if I’m careful about late evening drinks.

Did you have prostate cancer? Or have you just BPH? If you just had BPH what did you use for treatment? Drugs? if so what Drugs did you take to shrink your prostate?

I have BPH and would NOT like TURP or other older treatments for BPH. UroLift and this other steam treatment for BPH causing frequent urination etc .. is what I am interested in. Urolift is very good, easy to do (it's an outpatient treatment) and best of all does not cause side effects to sexual function (example, retrograde ejaculation) ..

This (HIFU) is a prostate cancer treatment and seems to be very good indeed but the two therapies being discussed here are for BPH. Rezum by the OP and Urolift by others. Much better treatments for BPH than TURP or other laser or microwave therapies. Unfortunately Thailand is late and hospitals here are not offering either Urolift or Rezum as far as I know of.

HIFU can and is used for BPH as well as early prostate cancer.

Just read through the article you posted, where does it say it is used for BPH? The article you posted read that it is recommended BPH be treated BEFORE HIFU therapy. ... show me an article where it says HIFU is used for BPH please.

and countless more. Just google it.

HIFU's original use was for BPH, it is only recently that it has also begun to be used for cancer.

to list but a few.
