Dentist Recommendation

Like the title says, I would very much appreciate a recommendation for an English speaking dentist in BKK.

They all speak english, never seen one who couldn't (in BKK at least).

 

You can just go pretty much anywhere, the prices are tight, there won't be a big difference between street dentist and hospital dentist, unless you plan to get 10 implants.
 

if you don't want to take a risk just go to any big hospitals, you always have huge dental centers in any of them.
 

I would just avoid Bangkok hospital dental center, had a bad experience there, not bad dentists, but it was quite obvious they were more concerned about making money than fixing my teeth the right way, bad advises and it was all in a rush, personal experience though, i'm sure plenty of guys in there had better ones.

Actually, the reason I put up this thread was because I was going to go to BIDC, but a colleague just went there and reported the same as what you said...she felt like the dentists were mostly concerned about how much money they could get out of her, as opposed to fixing her teeth in the best way. 

 

I'm already in pain...don't need more of a headache! I'm not too concerned about price or exact location....just want to find someone with a good reputation.

Which area do you live in ? 

If all you have is a cavity / decay (not sure how to call that in English), i'm not sure it's gona be worth the effort to travel across BKK to get a dentist that someone recommended you.

 

The dentist are pretty much all good in TH, went there couple of times from the big Bangkok hospital dental clinic till the street dentist, they were all skilled, i would just avoid the big privates 5 stars hotels clinic where you never know what kind of imaginary decease they're gonna find you and charge you a couple of extra THB for that.

I've used BIDC. The service and quality were fine; however there was definitely some low pressure sales approaches. It verged on the amusing and not something that concerned me.

Perhaps get a couple of opinions and then decide what you really need, then choose.

I do suggest you check out Thantakit International Dental Center in Bangkok. I've used them before and their dentists and staff were all fluent in English. Never had a problem with communication and my treatments. Their office has a positive atmosphere too. The owner was often present and was very friendly. They also offered weekly payment plans for my dental implants which is amazing.

My dentist is Dr. Pokpong Amornvit, who is located at THE S  Clinic, Soi Suanplu 8, off of Sathorn Road phone 02-287-4922. Very reasonable priced in a pleasant and clean atmosphere. Very good English including the receptionist with parking just a few steps from the clinic entrance if needed. I have been going there for six years and had great results each time. From my experience the prices are much more reasonable than the dental facilities in the Sukhumvit Road area. Good luck

Bumping this thread as I'm looking for recommendations for a Bangkok Dentist to have a couple of old Caps replaced & a new Implant (If they're reasonably priced I might also have a bridge replaced with an Implant + couple of Caps as well). 

 

If you don't mind me asking... Who did you end up going to see & would you recommend them?

Hi Mike, check out my recommendation of Dr. Pokpong just two comments back. He is great and very reasonably priced. I have had both dental crowns and implants done by him. He studied doing the implants at UCLA and all of his work is first rate. I have been going to him for six years, if you have more detailed questions PM me, but I would highly recommend you giving them a call, you won't regret it. I did my homework prior to going there and I feel the prices here are lower than most of the clinics in the Sukhumvit area with as good or better quality.

After 15 years...not recommending Dental Hospital, I've left never to return. I think they have moved as well. Quality is fine. Just indifferent and expensive. Definite no to BIDC for reasons mentioned + indifference. My experience in Asia, whenever you see lots of signage either telling you how great the place is or posting a bunch of rules - run. Finally, a big nope for the Ivory, Ratchada. Expensive, unorganized did not come close to website hype. Never mailed me my x-rays.

 

I need a good dentist and I'll pay fair money.

This place has been around awhile, I almost tried them. How long have you been going there? Dentists and reception are Thais? I think I had called, some Filipino on the line years back...

Yes, both the dentist and receptionist are Thai but speak very good English. I have been going there 6 years now. I have no idea where you are getting the Fillipino part, they are Thai and he studied at UCLA, he is a perfectionist and like I said, very reasonable priced.

I usually go to BIDC..., and yes they probably are more expensive that other large dental specialists..., many well off Thai, Chinese and just middle income westerners go there because it's quality work - specialist diagnostic and treatment is all available there 'in house'. I fit into the 3rd group and personally I always go there because they have better quality 'specialists'...., no doubt others will choose a different belief. I've been very surprised 2 times.., to actually get a refund..., that surprised the **** out of me...., to my knowledge no dentist, anywhere, ever gave a refund ! 
Also..., 2 different groups of friends have now also been there..., when they returned they were pretty close to 'evangelical' about their experiences !

..., if you're just getting fillings replaced or some such..., best to go to another place. There are no shortage of quality dentists in Bangkok, for less complicated work.

We've been using the dental clinic at the Bangkok Adventist Hospital (aka Mission Hospital) for about 15 years now. No complaints, no pushy sales, and (from my POV) reasonably priced for the service.

You got a refund for what !? your teeth started to fall a week after being to BIDC and they refunded you ? How nice of them.

I personally recommend Thantakit Dental Center too. Indeed, they spoke English very well. My dentist did awesome work and staff were also very accommodating. Superb facilities and building too. Amazing and positive experience overall.

 Back in 2013, I was in a traffic accident and had to have major dental work involving dental and jaw reconstructions. This could not be undertaken overnight..., dental and orthopaedic work on bones need time to heal and 'settle' before the next stage can take place.., meaning every 6 to 8 months for 3 years I would return to BIDC. I paid up front for a couple of 'sets' of implants and a bone graft..., and twice during the course of my various treatments I was told (in very good english)..., that there had been 'developments' during the long course of my total treatment that meant I did not need to have such complicated surgery for the next lot of treatments and therefore my account would be 'credited' accordingly.

Not sure how to take it, not even sure you were serious, quite confused.

 

 

So if you were actually serious, (just to make sure we're on the same page) : 

Chill out, didn't know what happened to you, was just surprised that a dentist "refunded" something, first time ever hearing such thing.

When you hear "a dentist refunded me" it sounds more like " a dentist f*** up the work and at some point agreed or decided to refund me", it doesn't sounds like "I paid 100% of the treatment in advance, and somewhere in the middle of it, they were some improvements, price went down so they refunded me the difference.

We used the same dentist two years ago very nice and quality work, not too expensive.

I went to Thantakit. It was wasn't cheap, it was - meh. Professional, clean. Can't say I left feeling the love.

 

Dental hospital was less personal but still seemed more professional. The dentist was fine I guess.
