Online job scams

Featured Replies

Just a heads up for anyone with a Thai wife or girlfriend whereby she might be looking for online work. As most people know Thailand is even worse than Western countries for scams. My wife was looking for a little pocket money and some shops were advertising at home packaging paying for the labor. She applied to 2 ladies,, the first was packing plastic flowers into clear plastic bags, after they were sorted, then the bags stapled. When they were sent back to the agent she claimed the staples weren't straight and didn't pay the fee for packaging (she did give my wife the initial deposit back though. I looked at the packing before it was sent and they were done just as requested), but no big deal live and learn. Now today the second different company has notified my wife that The main company in Nong Khai has gone dark and not paying the agent (Khon Kaen (whom my wife has dealt with) she said there is other ladies who have done packaging like my wife and are left on the hook not being paid  and she is getting all their info together to take to the police. I had my wife go to the local police station  here also and they seem at best indifferent to the whole scam and siad let the other lady handle it. Prior to packaging my wife paid 3000bt for the product (in this case rubber hair bands. )  This will obviously end with her loosing the 3000bt and her 2days of work. I feel sorry for my wife because she's as honest as they come and prime targets for these scum.  The agent is likely working together with the shop(if there is one) All of this was done via that wonderful world of facebook where this stuff flourishes. So if your wife is looking at any of these online schemes to try and make a little cash from home, thank her for her attempt but trust me , just tell her to forget it. And this wasn't any sort of get rich scheme, just a simple sort and package labor for a couple hundred baht. I've asked my wife to get online and burn these people but she's too nice and  I know she won't, thus the cycle continues for the next hundred suckers with the police not interested.

As the years have gone by I'm shocked at how  little regard Thais have for other Thais when it comes to money or get rich schemes, Loaning money to friends at a measly  7%/month, or  friends of ours   disappearing in the middle of the night so they didn't have to pay for the monthly restaurant rental in the morning,,,, and the list goes on. I'm not a Facebooker and suspect there is no recourse for this online and for 3000bt not worth the time. But if this post helps somebody to steer around this at least  maybe  it was worthwhile.

Unfortunately these sort of scams have been going for years and not just here.

I remembers years ago in UK my girlfriend at the time got this little work at home job addressing envelopes or something like that.

Same thing, after paying for the materials and spending many days conscientiously doing a good job all her work was rejected as not being up to standard or something - just a scam.
