My two cents from a male perspective.

 

Dating sites in general are only going to work for the best-looking 10% of the male population.  For the rest it's close to a waste of time because the women are swamped with messages so obviously they'll choose the most appealing which usually means the most attractive.

 

Anyway that aside, too many guys are paying for the premium membership to try to get ahead of the competition; they can send unlimited messages compared to free accounts which can only send one every 10 minutes.  Personally I won't pay a few thousand baht to talk to people, that is all kinds of wrong in my opinion.  It's the same with Tinder - too many guys are buying extra superlikes so their messages/profiles appear ahead of the rest, and anybody without a premium account is so far down the list their messages/profiles might not even be noticed, never mind read.  Thaifriendly should probably do something about this by increasing the cost of the membership (but it's already high) or by limiting the number of messages premium accounts can send in any one day.

 

The TF phone app is very buggy (at least on Android).  You cannot view past page 1 of the messages, so a popular girl who is getting 10 messages an hour (5 of them might be from the same guy sending the same thing over and over) has no chance to reply to them all if they're checking the app once a day; it's impossible.

 

All this means that trying to meet girls from TF in high season in Bangkok is not an efficient use of most people's time.  Even if you pay for premium, you're still competing over a few girls who are getting hundreds of other messages every day, it's a bit circle jerky.  It's much better to search outside Bangkok, the neighbouring provinces are only an hour's drive.  And it's best to focus your energy on the app more in low season, when competition is more sparse.  You will notice a huge difference in reply rates in Dec/Jan compared to the middle of the rainy season.

 

So an example scenario for maximum success would be messaging a girl in low season who lives in e.g. Samut Prakan, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, maybe as far as Ayuthaya, Hua Hin and Chon Buri if you're willing to travel that far (obviously ignore Pattaya).  Somebody of optimum age and decent appearance should expect above 75% reply rates for this group of girls.  The same guy messaging girls in Bangkok in high season might get a reply rate of somewhere around 25% and replies will typically be from the less pretty girls/single mums etc.

 

Eventually if you send enough messages without paying for premium TF will get tired of you and restrict your account until you pay premium.  So you either pay or start a new profile.

 

Thai girls are very good at changing what they actually look like using apps, filters, make-up, Instagram angles.  If she says she's not pretty on her profile, believe her.  It's not the same as western girls who will say they are fat and ugly even if they are not fat or ugly.  Thai girls are self-aware, probably because the culture here promotes the perfect appearance so much.

 

I avoid any profile in scant dress or with neon lighting in the background - almost always prostitutes.  They can't/won't write on their profile that they are a prostitute, and certain words might flag your messages for an admin to review/too many girls reporting you for asking can result in an account ban.  But note that TF don't ban girls who ask for money for sex in messages, say they are 'freelance', or anything along those lines.  I've reported enough of them to know.  I guess they must make money out of them or that some guys are interested in these type of girls?

 

TF is not as good as it once was but if you put enough time into it (or buy premium) you can still get a date every few nights if that's what you want.  When I started using it about 4 years ago you could get a date every night, or 2-3 if you had the energy.  There're a lot more timewasters on Tinder, people who download it because they were bored, or delete it after a day but don't uninstall the app (so their profile still appears in search results), or only check messages once a week.  Not to mention the ladyboys who don't have their own gender option so get lumped in the 'female' category.  Tinder again works best outside Bangkok in areas with fewer foreigners/people in general.  There are some other websites and I spend some time on those as a substitute for Thaifriendly; reply rates are generally better.  Thaifriendly is the go-to dating app for foreigners in Thailand, it gets a lot of publicity everywhere.

 

Really the guys who can only use dating apps to meet girls (I include myself in this) should get some social skills and approach people in real life.  These girls will likely only be talking to you, not 50 other guys, and most Thais are not adverse to dating foreigners anymore.

imo the only thing decent at oskar is the pizza.  mainly older "standard issan issue" dressed for oskar that seem to all have phd's just like the thaifriendly girls.
