Anyone know of any local computer repair services that work on Microsoft Surface tablets.  Microsoft wants me to send it to Bangkok and for ฿16,000 they will send me a refurbished replacement.  They won't fix mine (though I imagine they will actually refurbish it and send it to the next person like me with a broken one).

I would prefer to have it repaired, rather than starting from scratch with a used one.  Any suggestions gratefully accepted.  Thanks

What is the problem?

I know two people who used that MS service. The new devices looked like new but it's obviously expensive.

In case the your screen is damaged and you can't use it anymore: There is an adapter that you can use the Surface with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. At least you can move all your data if this is a concern for you.

Thanks.  The screen is fine, the damn thing just won't boot up.  Tried all the push this, hold that suggestions on the internet, but its is dead in the water.  Hoping it is something simple like a dead battery, so I don't have to reload everything.  But MS only offers a replacement option.

Did you try a different charger?

If this is possibly the problem then I would go with the Surface to Banana IT or IT City and ask for a new charger.

And then you obviously want to try if this charger works.

If you connect a good charger and that is/was the problem then you can start the Surface after a few seconds of charging.

You can also buy 3rd party chargers cheap i.e. here:

I had considered the power charger as a possibility, but the MS folks said since the light on the connector was illuminated, then the charger was working.  But trying a second one is definitely worth doing, as that would be a cheap cure.

I know IT City has a shop nearby, not sure about Banana IT, will check it out later today.
