Speaker clusters on long poles. Music bass coming from a mile away. Motorbikes that don't appear to have a silencer. People who shout in hotel corridors after 10pm. People who shout. Those godawful whistle people. Those 1 kiloton fireworks that randomly go off in the afternoon. Exploding electricity junction boxes. People learning to play guitar, or much worse, the ukulele. People. No animal noise here has ever bothered me, and I have a loft full of nesting squirrels, and probably 50 tukgaers, [large lizards that hunt at night.] Door slammers 3

Mental health problems are undoubtedly on the rise - both amongst those wannabes who create noise pollution, and those who suffer from it. It reminds me of a mass shooting that occurred down South about ten years ago. (Not in an area usually associated with insurgency either.) A 52 year old local guy shot dead 8 people (1 also wounded). His neighbors had been deliberately taunting him for years with loud karaoke parties in the garden. They disregarded his frequent complaints. The dead included the householder - the woman director of the local hospital and several of her staff. There have been quite a few shootings as a result of noise in recent months. If i lived at the river in Kanchanaburi where those very loud partyrafts pass every minute i would have bought me a bazooka to get rid of them. They kept me awake all night with their noise so i'll never go back to kanchanaburi. 1
Popular Post NCC1701A
7/11 entrance and exit ding dong! ding dong! ding dong! ding dong! but i feel really bad for Family Mart employees who have to listen to the computer voice announcing "HELLO WELCOME!" every time anyone gets near the entrance. "HELLO WELCOME!" "HELLO WELCOME!" "HELLO WELCOME!" "HELLO WELCOME!" 10

Popular Post sanemax
Interesting : When felangs complain about anything , theres always a chorus of "This is Thailand , if you dont like it , go home . Dont complain about anything and dont try to change Thailand as its not your Country , dont come here and complain* Now that Thais have voiced their disapproval about something , can we also voice our disapproval ? 6 1

I got the annual visit from the local health clinic a few months back. The subject of noise arose. The doc had obviously heard the same complaint from almost every house in the street. Naturally, he said he could do nothing about it - which was exactly as expected 1

I am not a chorus, neither i would suggest you to go back to your country. But i have to wonder at the number of people who choose to live in a city and complain for the noise. Cities are noisy, not only in Thailand. 2

Yes , but my point was that some people feel that foreigners shouldnt complain about anything . Since Thais complained about something , are we now allowed to also complain ?

Popular Post Gecko123
I've been waging a one-man campaign to raise awareness about noise pollution in my neighborhood, especially coming from large outdoor home speakers and souped up car sound systems with windows rolled down and doors open wide. It's been going on at least two years, and I can honestly say neighbors are starting to show more appreciation for peace and quiet. It's been a slow educational and coalition building process. Older people, people with health problems, people with young children, people who work graveyard and swing shifts, and people who don't have sound systems are all good candidates for allies against noise. Nobody has actually come right out and said 'thank you', but I can tell a lot of people appreciate my efforts. The goal isn't to force someone to stop making sound whatsoever, but to educate and build awareness about noise pollution. I've also tried to get the local police to take noise complaints more seriously, pointing out the increasing number of cases where excessive noise has resulted in violence. Popular Post samsensam
While many foreign tourists and expats think Thais just grin and bear it, the opposite is in fact true. rubbish - whoever wrote that article knows nothing about thialand. i know thais grin and bear excessive noise because i see them doing so every day; promotion girls in shopping mall, car park guys with whistles, late night partying, sitting on public transport with the advertising blaring and people listening to music/tv shows on their mobiles without headphones, there is simply noise everywhere and very very rarely does anyone do anything about it. culturally thais tend to avoid confrontation so just grin and bear noise, they also generally wont take responsibility for resolving issues and problems.
Popular Post Phuket Man
Thais love noise. You try getting any of your neighbours to do anything about the incessant noise in your area. Non stop noise here and nobody cares. They may complain about noise in private but rarely voice their opinion and risk becoming a target. And if you don't like the all-night throbbing music or boy racers out front, who you gonna call - Big Joke? Police don't do law enforcement and local municipalities turn a blind eye to the problem so no solutions are apparent.
