How can i find the cost price of meds?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I am learning that Thailand does not regulate drug prices and as a result prices do wildly vary from place to place. I would like to know how i can find out the cost price before traveling to Thailand so i can get an idea as to whether i am getting a good price or not. Which brings me to my next question; where in Bangkok is the cheapest i can buy medicine? Which drug store exactly? I know hospitals will be the most expensive. What is the opposite side of that spectrum?

The drug i am looking for is Olanzapine (Brand name Zyprexa). I know Zyprexa is too expensive therefore i am looking for generic. The hospital sells it (a generic called Olapin) for 400 bht a tab, which i feel is just too expensive. What i would like to know is how much they buy it for. How much does the distributor sell it to pharmacies for (cost price).

According to Mims Thailand (here) it's listed at class D so i understand not every drug store is going to have it. I do of course have a prescription for it and will be getting another one from Thailand as well. I guess what i'm trying to know is where exactly in Bangkok i can get it for the cheapest possible price.

Nobody is going to tell you that.
