I’m using annual tax papers to get the necessary stamp at the Norwegian Embassy, but what I don’t get is if proof of income by the embassy isn’t good enough, how is a Thai bank account suppose to prove an income?

In practice it's not possible. Your annual tax return is proof positive of your income. Thai bank accounts can easily be manipulated. Which is why it will never happen.

The problem is some countries, such like yours, have not required applicants for income verification letters provide true proof of income. This has led to unpaid liabilies for Thai businesses especially hospitals. Now the blowback wîll likely affect passport holders of countries that played by the rules too.

Oh, I see. This is all America's fault your embassy has stopped issuing you income verification letters.

I had to show my pension letters to get the Ïncome Letter"from the Embassy. Can you honestly believe the DWP and Civil Service Pensions are going to falsify documents to enable me to meet the financial requirements of the Thai Immigration??

It is not only Pension income which the Consulate is being required to verify. What about investment income, rental income, bank interest. All come under INCOME.

That is very true, and that makes things complicated, sometimes very complicated.

Pensions on the other hand are payments for life and if they had a sensible system here pension income could be verified once and that proof good for life.

This is why the majority of nations that offer retirement programs based on income accept PENSIONS ONLY for retirement status (demanding proof ONCE) and sometimes have a totally separate visa class for people using other kinds of income (and usually having higher requirements than pensions as younger people are included).

Thanks. Really hope it is. Like how on earth could I prove it better than that. Actually its the only way to prove your income (pension) at the Norwegian Embassy that I know of, hence why I got so confused, never knew people did it any other way.

So what is this letter thing the Brits are showing as «proof»?

Sadly, the max state pension in UK is currently £125.95, which equates to about Bht 23,500 a month. I guess some guys have to 'manipulate' the figures sometimes.

Well currently there is the combination method available to them.

U.S. nationals getting social security receive an average of about 40K baht.

It's hardly a British only issue.

What rubbish. Dozens of different types of pensions, not all for life.

Call names if you like. Government pensions are generally for life. Private pensions may be for life but are more likely to crap out over time. Perhaps you are calling things pensions that aren't pensions. I'm just saying I have looked at retirement programs of many nations and most of them treat government pensions in a special, presumed permanent way. Thailand lumps it all together. That's fine in theory but in practice now we are seeing there are complications. Of course these complications have been there all along but for some reason there's noise about that NOW.

Cheers.

UK government pensions are for life.

Private pensions 'can' also be.

Company pensions most likely have an end date.

So no-one is posting rubbish.

I don't know the will it, won't it answer.

So the question is,

Will 'no tips' to Imm' include part of the agents fee for 'chancy' extensions when no 800,000 or 65,000 a month exists?

Ok so even more proof, and its even gross income. So I’m guessing you’ll be fine.

its not a case of having the money, its a case of now having 20,000 english pounds in a Thai bank for 3 months, and we hear every week of skimmers, using cloned cards to nick money from unsuspecting people with the banks taking no responsibility for the losses. and everyone having to show 800,00 baht in the bank i dont trust a Thai bank as far as i can spit

Just put it in an account that has no ATM card affiliated to it. If you got an ATM facility account .. visit bank .. get a second account and top up ATM account from it as you go. I think you can get an internet account and move funds. No risk of skimmers taking big bucks if you keep small bucks in it. Thats what I do ...
