Status: I was married and successfully/legally divorced my Thai wife at the Aumpor in DMK. (protip: the aumpors in Bangkok have too many falangs going there already and they give them a hard time so I was advised to go a little bit outside of Bangkok for better service and less hassle).

Problem: I gave my only copy to a scammy law firm. They took my money and are sitting on it, doing nothing. There are many google reviews in the past year all saying the same thing. I used them 5 years ago and they were ok but they suddenly started scamming everyone. I will be able to get some of my money back thanks to paypal. But, the problem is, I can't get this paper back, they won't give it to me.

Misc details: Thai wife and I married in America not Thailand, but divorced in Thailand. Getting a kor-lor-22 was part of the process to register the divorce in Thailand. I don't need the kor-lor-22, just the divorce paper.

Question: Can I get a new copy of the divorce paper from the Aumpor? I believe it is called a "ใบสําคัญการหย่า" and looks like this: %E0%B9%83%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B3%E0%

From a couple of similar threads it would be possible to get a copy if the original is lost.

Best done at the district office (amphoe) where the divorce was done.

It would require a police report for the lost document.

BUT in your case it's a bit tricky.

Be honest and tell police that some scammer withholds the document?

This might cause complications.

Or just take it easy and tell them you lost it?

That's a tough one. Because if I go to the police, they will want/need my real address, and they could just give it to the scammer who could use muscle/etc to harass me, meaning not the safest idea. If said scammer doesn't have the moral compass regarding financial crime, I'm sure they don't have much a problem with violent crime either.

So yeah, saying I lost it sounds like the smartest idea actually. TIT
