Police are hunting for the pickup that hit and killed a policeman returning to his post in Chiang Mai’s Mae Rim district on Monday night.

The Mae Rim police station was alerted of the accident on the Mae Rim-Samerng road in Tambon Mae Ram in Mae Rim district at 8.25pm.

Pol Senior Sgt-Major Yutthakarn Rassameechantharang was killed on the road beside his motorcycle. Witnesses told police that Yutthakarn’s motorcycle was hit by a speeding pickup in the opposite lane.

Yutthakarn was stationed at a post in Tha Ma-oh village in Tambon Don Kaew of Chiang Mai’s Sarapee district.

Police said Yutthakarn was riding his motorcycle from the Mae Rim police station, where he had been seconded to help, back to his post in Tha Ma-oh when the accident occurred.

Witnesses did not see the licence plate of the pickup and police have not yet been able to identify and locate it.
