iHerb Orders and Duty Question

Featured Replies

I recently discovered that iHerb has now eliminated the free shipping to Thailand on minimum $40 US orders. In that case it would make sense to order larger quantities in order to make the order more economical, but iHerb says on their site that Thailand will charge duty on orders larger than $46 US. Can anyone here confirm or refute that? Has anyone ordered larger valued orders that have not been flagged for duty? If in fact they do charge duty, any idea what rates are usually assigned to supplement orders? Appreciate any feedback on members' experiences.

Have had many orders from Iherb for substantially more than $46,never any taxes or questions.Largest was over  $100.

Me too and never any problems.

Duty is set at 1500 baht so depending on the exchange rate it is about $46. I wouldn't try it. Be careful even with trying to undervalue a package too. They will set the value they think it is worth and I have never been successful trying to reason with them that what they valued the package is too high.

I buy a lot of stuff from iherb but my last order was a nightmare. It took 8 weeks for deliverywith the order setting in Germany 7 weeks and when I got the order a large hole had been torn in it and the bottle of prostate herbs was missing nothing else but they were also the cheapest products in the package.

Easy enough to figure out what is in the package as there is a product list on the outside/ I complained several times but really never recieved a satisfactory answer from the people I talked to. If there was another choice I would switch but they are really it for vit. and herbs

Thanks for the replies so far. Has anyone experienced duty being applied to an order? If so, what rates were used? Just wondering if it is reasonable or exorbitant.

All my iHerb orders have gone through without duty charges. I keep my charges under $46/under 4 pounds. The iHerb “Loyalty Credits” usually lower the shipping costs to add only a couple dollars to the overall cost of the order. I noticed when my order charges hit $50 or so, there are no shipping charges. Since I keep my order below the $46/4 pound threshold, I don’t know how Customs might respond.

I had two orders from another company, sent USPS, one package was charged duty, the other not. Those orders were over $150 each. Herbal supplements. Customs classified them as medicine. Duty and taxes totaled 37%. And they also add those fees on shipping charges. I ordered a three month product supply and the Customs agent allowed it through implying if it had been more, it could be classified as for resale and he might have refused it’s entry—or added additional charges? Additionally, I was thinking of ordering sprouting seeds and was told that would be treated as an agricultural product (and who knows what they would have done with THAT!:))
