Teachers at a small primary school in Nakhon Phanom's Pla Pak district are appealing for public donations after a school building was burned down on Wednesday night.

The fire engulfed an old wooden building of Ban Kok School in Moo 5 village in Tambon Pla Pak of Nakhon Phanom's Pla Pak district at 6pm. The fire happened on the eve of new school term on Thursday.

Firefighters took about an hour to control the blaze which damaged the building and education equipment inside.

The building, constructed in 1981, was used for teaching Grade 2 and Grade 6 students.

Teachers said although students can study in a new building, the school does not have the budget to buy new teaching aids and equipment and would appreciate public donations.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Normally governments don't insure their stuff they take the risk themselves and put something like an insurance premium on an account. This way they do have budget when a fire or something else bad happens. I guess in Thailand they copied the not taking out insurance part.. but not the putting some money on the side for the self insuring.

If anyone is interested in donating, to provide these kids with books, paper, pens etc that were destroyed in the fire, they can do so, in bank branch, by ATM or by phone app, to this account: Thanakan Om Sin (Government Savings Bank) A/C No: 020161-692346, Pla Paak Branch, Nakhon Phanom. The account name in Thai is:  กองทุนพัฒนาการศึกษาโรงเรียนบ้านกอก
