Would it not be more constructive to hunt down the tourists or overstayers who are drug peddlars, trouble makers, bullies, or drunks who provoke fights in bars, rather then chasing harmless teachers who are there to develop the english proficency for the students of Thailand ?

What did you think teachers do in their spare time?

BJ is a self publicist of the highest order. It's really becoming quite sad

Or, he is broadcasting loud and clear that lawbreakers are no longer going to get away with whatever and had better get legal or get out. The warning could not be louder or more serious. Nothing wrong with publicising that.

Picked some school in the backwaters of Issan on Cambodian border.

But the press dutifully complied.

It shows just how simpleminded the decision makers are... "That school has so many foreign teachers, something must be going on". The only reason they know there are that many foreign teachers is because they are properly registered there...

The lazy approach to a serious problem, check those who try to comply. Show you are doing something while you ignore the real culprits...

Raid schools with fairly large number of pupils, but no foreign teachers registered.

I know an old person living in Thailand for 20 years without a visa.

He stays all days inside the home so nobody sees him.

It has been going on for 20 years he has been there.

I guess now he is so old he can't really move. In a small village with kind Thai people and family helping him.

I hope for him that Thailand won't push him out. Ok it is the law. But it IS cruel.

He would not stand a day at the immigration deportation center.

Sad life ending.

Interesting - they all seem to have their passports at hand. So their school holds their passports (perhaps to stop runners) or their teachers keep them in their school desks or bring them to school every day.

Who else keeps their passports them all of the time no matter where they are? Our school keeps copies of all paperwork but they definitely do no keep our passports (or out WP for that matter).

Or they were tipped off the day before...

So many on TV would be happier if he didn't jack things up a bit and get his staff to get out and clear out drug dealers, scammers ( romantic and financial ) and overstayers who stick up two fingers because they feel entitled? That's a question by the way.

Managers don't work, they make decisions and get others to do the work and then take the glory, anywhere in the world.

A friend of mine works in one of the schools that was raided. (a big school with many campuses) The school has 2 separate sign in books: one for the legal teachers and one for the illegals. He told me the admin and working conditions are so bad that they cannot keep the qualified teachers and rely on a high turnover of  illegals.

That is sad more than anything else.

You might be surprised to learn Mukdahan is on the border with Laos just across the Mekong from Savannakhet, a popular visa destination with denizens of this forum.

What is it with schools demanding foreign teachers to wear white long sleeve shirts with Ties and then teach in Non AC classrooms in temp in the 90's? One could say its institutional racism. Why ties, what is wrong with an open neck, even most of the government people don't wear ties except at formal get-togethers!
