Many, many TV members have used this hospital, it is the best in the northeast region. It is a government hospital though (teaching hospital) so expect long waits, red tape etc. There is an "after hours" clinic which will enable you to directly consult the senior doctors with less wait, use that.

Costs at this hospital are low. Though for this spocific procedure there will be a cost for the device, which is imported. Certainly it will be as low a cost as can be found in Thailand.

I don't know of anyone who had this specific procedure done there though,. You might try PM to the OP.

I had my op done in Australia and best thing I ever did. Very simple procedure....done laparoscopically (inserted through small incisions). No discomfort day to day unless you guts down a large chunk of steak or soft bread etc can get stuck 5555. You have to use the band in conjunction with a more reasonable diet. It is not a magic cure on its own. One of the best things I did was talk to a nutritionalist who explained what sugar, fat and carbs does in a diet, particularly when eaten together at the same time. Once you understand the mechanics of it all and a reduced appetite you should be able to lose weight and maintain it. I need to go and see the specialist here for a check up make sure everything is alright and possibly have it tightened a little.

No good going into it if you are going to see if you look for ways to cheat the band. I have known people had the operation done and complained they could still eat 8 sausages. Or people who continue to drink 3 litres of coke a day, milkshakes or sweet drinks. The lap band will not help with this. Soft foods and liquids will still can be overdone, though you will feel fuller faster. They are adjustable by injecting (adding or removing) saline into them (very simply done).

Cost me about $5000 all up in Oz but included a hernia repair. I am guessing shouldn't be anything like that here.

I would do a bit of online research, query the doctor as to how he would plan to do the op and make sure you are comfortable with his responses. Some will try and talk you into, I forget the medical term but having part of your bowel removed. I think this is an outdated procedure these days but who knows here in Thailand. If you need any advice please feel free to PM me. And please correct me if I am wrong in any case here Sheryl. I had mine done around 8 years ago. Maybe things have changed

Anyone had a hernia OP at govt. hospital near Pattaya, Cost, first office vist, appointment Quick?  Thanks for info....

People have had it done at QueenSirikit Naval Hospital.

"Quick" and "government hospital" don't go together, especially for elective surgery.

Expect long wait and red tape at first visit and then wait list (probably a couple of months) for the surgery itself.

Cost I think somewhere between 25-45,000 baht. That is for open approach.

If you want quick you need to go to a private hospital where it will cost 3-5 times as much but can be arranged on the spot.
