From the link, 6,000 of that amount is for the funeral afetr he returns hoem.

The real "why" is "heart attack" at  age 30.

Perhaps they are wanting to bring him back quickly and un-embalmed so that a proper autopsy can be done. I would.

Because they are christians and want him buried in holy ground.

I agree it's just a waste of money .

But maybe not for the parents

RIP and all that.

Apart from that I guess I will never understand what this "bringing home" is all about. He is dead. What's the point of transporting a dead body half around the globe?

I guess a cremation in a local temple will cost less than 1,000USD, probably a lot less.

Then they can send the ashes "home" or scatter it in a river or whatever.

Relatives at home can still put some flowers in a vase and if they feel like it pray for him.

agree 10000000000000000%

Yea wasting time and money to take him back home. he can get Cremated here and the family can do whatever they want with the ashes . take them home or put them in the Garden and plant some flowers.   That's what I want

Then the parents need to pay for it.

That is one of the unfortunate facts of life, he who pays the piper, calls the tune.

You cannot make demands and should not make requests in my view, to strangers for these types of things when you come from the developed world or you should make sensible arrangements within budget, like the rest of us have to.

I agree with that – the parents and Christian – however, I don't agree with all these crowdfundings, instantly coming up when people don't have proper insurance, or other kind of arrangements.

The people that we expected to contribute to the GoFundMePage was just family and Friends (Which most of them are) My mother was going to get william cremated before a lot of people asked to bring him home and that they would all help pay the cost. There are a lot of people donating because they’ve been through this themselves and we are thankful to everyone that has helped. It’s not a waste of money when all of his home town want to back and who are against cremating him. Nothings a waste of money when it’s someone you love!

Only a limited autopsy can be carried out after a body has been embalmed. My ex-wife died on holiday in Turkey and she was embalmed - the autopsy in the UK could not determine the cause of death so perhaps you are correct.

I doubt very much a lot of people have been through this themselves At all. It is not a normal set of circumstances by any stretch.

I stand by what I believe here and that crowdfunding and Gofundme were not designed for people travelling with inadequate insurance or travelling underfunded, whereby they are asking others for flight tickets home, repatriation, operations in foreign countries, etc.

Your requests for donations are requested for repatriation, which in itself is substantial,  but also for a full-blown funeral with all that goes with it on the return of the body, at the expense of others.

This particular case just sounds like a hi-tec way of passing the hat around among family and friends, nowt wrong with that. Interestingly, many Thai funerals work on a similar basis, with envelopes full of money being given to the deceased's next of kin to help defray funeral expenses. With Thais it's a reciprocal thing though, with an unwritten rule that you reciprocate when the time comes. In the West older people tend to have arrangements in place, but this guy was 30 so it's not too surprising that his family needs help to cope with a sudden unexpected expense.
