Indeed and this is the key point.

Most posters are viewing the motorcycle taxi driver as simply an aggressive individual but he is in fact part of a group under the protection of an influential person, typically a senior police officer, powerful local politician or military officer. This group is a valuable income stream for the patron and the patron will protect members of the group.

Spot on and of course, the reason why the POS motorcycle taxi driver could threaten and spit on a cop is that the influential person that he pays his protection money to illegally park his bike on the sidewalk is higher status than the traffic cop. So POS motorcycle taxi can do whatever he wants with impunity. In most westernized countries he would be looking at ten years hard time if the cops had not shot him dead. Next time the cops will know better.

"This includes assault, slander, stopping officials from doing their job as well as illegal use of a vehicle and being on the sidewalk on a bike."

And absolutely NO MENTION of using/carrying a weapon !!!! How typical.

Note the word 'includes'. That means some but not all.

Yet another example what is behind the smiles and jai yen yen. Any trigger and off they go.

Also yet another proof how much law is respected no matter how reasonable or unreasonable.

But my favorite part is taxi rider going to police station to acknowledge the charges with his mother.

39 years old and still dragging mother to deal with his stupidity

On my usual walk to Macro this morning I was quite surprised. No motorbikes competing with me for pavement space! Only a few push bikes silently creeping up on me. Can't have everything I suppose.

At 3-5 days pay why not? Just because we walk around with plenty more than this in our pockets doesn't mean this guy isn't taking a big hit. It's all relative.

Do you know how much these guys earn?

I know that in some areas (not all) they can earn 60K a month or 2000 a day. Yes sixty thousand baht. This was confirmed to me by one of the guys in central Bangkok. He told me that many of the short journeys cost 50 - 100 baht and here are other "duties" associated with the job, such as driving pickups or helping on pickups sometimes

I know in some areas they probably earn 300 baht a day... maybe even less. I guess it all depends on the location.

Police should have shot him on the spot.

My training, while not local, was deadly force is used only to protect myself and other from death or serious injury. Non-lethal means of subduing an armed person are an option to a trained officer.

Of course in Thailand, who knows?

The motorcycle taxi drivers are just upset that the police have not got the memo that the traffic laws do not apply to them. Just the public.

give the poor guy a break, seems he read the official 9/11 government narrative and the box cutter makes him feel invincible.

The article stated 7 offence of which FIVE were listed. How do you know whether or not if one of the others was carrying a weapon, even IF a box cutter is classed as a weapon. If it is I'd better empty the Armoury in my kitchen drawer.

If i am not mistaken slander... includes saying  "f____ you... eye hea... and another couple words" so next time 'TV readers get into a spat with a Thai watch your words cos they can call us a whole list of things but we can't say zilch... I know from experience and if I am wrong please correct me...

Green shirts (Tessakit) need to stick to their duties busting people for cigarettes.

This is there job along with fining people for littering and illegal parking and other council problems, it's only after a school girl gets run over by one of these morons that the council has started to enforce the rules and the Tessakit are the enforcers.

Police should have shot him on the spot.

Yup, there would have been a policeman, on a motorbike, on the pavement nearby!
