There is an airport there- a nice one! Just no flights!

Takes about 3 easy driving hours from BKK to HH. I've never driven all the way to Phuket, but imagine it would be 8-9 hours from HH.

EDIT- I was wrong about flights... there is a shuttle from BKK. HH Airport website

But the cost is ridiculous. From my memory - which isn't fantastic, it's about 4000 baht each way!

It is very expensive. It used to be cheaper about 4 yrs ago when BKK Air operated a BKK/HH/Samui route, only about 1,700 bt one way, if I remember right, but of course, they stopped. It's now a company called SGA doing it. Never bothered flying with them, just too expensive, I used to fly the BKK airways flight fairly regularly.
