anyone know recyclers who buy old appliances in need of repair

Getting ready to make a move and have some items not working that could still have some value to a recycler, ie old refrig, water cooler (works) 150 kilos of used A4 paper, etc.  Anyone know know who might buy this stuff and a number I could call?  Thanks

According to the know-it-all wife, she told me paper is 10baht/kilo (if my memory serves me right) it was 3baht/kilo 10 years ago. You'll have to deliver it yourself though.

Personally I'd follow Pilotmans advice.

leave it outside your house, or better still at the waste bins, it will be gone within minutes.

I tested that theory with an old battery drill, still in the case. it hasn't worked for years so rather than bin it, thought I would test the old theory.

I put it on the wall where everyone leaves their bin bags two weeks ago.

Happy to report I live in a very honest village...…...and obviously very affluent!

when I was arranging to move to LOS I had 4 old bicycles to get rid of.  All were punctured, rusty and worthless. Left them outside my house in SE England and they were all gone within an hour. Maybe Sussex is less affluent (or honest)  than your part of Thailand?

My affluent village community seems to have reported me now for fly tipping!!!

For what it's worth.

Several years back I was down the M/cycle garage when a very scruffy old Thai turned up and went through their Big Plastic rubbish bins, collecting and placing in trailer on his bicycle.

I sort of looked then raised my eyes to the sky as some of the Thai guys watched me.

After the guy had moved on one of the lads who spoke reasonable English says to me.

'John his kids go to best schools in CM and he drives a Benz after work.'

john

or as we say in Britain

Wheres theirs Muck theres Money.

Another urban legend, a variation on the "affluent beggar" trope, recycled into less than half-truth.

What to do with an old TV that weighs 50kg?

Just beat it with a hammer which will turn it into small pieces easily moved.

Thanks, I guess the implosion will move the pieces all by itself.

get 2 people to move it   then its only 25kg per person and much more do-able

leave it by the bins  it will disappear.

Thanks for all the great and helpful replies.  Just another reason of why I am going to sorely miss living in Chiang Mai.

what part of CM do you live?   if you live near meechok plaza or  out by doi saket i can suggest a place or two.  These places you need to bring in the stuff yourself and you are not paid very much.   They only buy for the metal, basically ( also cardboard, plastic, etc)

I live near Meechok and would very much like to know of these places.  Thanks!

there is one place on the mae jo road going from meechok towards superhwy ( so that is east side).

fairly small, about half way near a shop that does metal work.

another place (nice owner) is also small.  it is on the road that runs along the river on east side .  about 1 km north of the superhwy .  So that is past a thai market (talat kajow)  about half a km on the right side.

remember, they are just paying scrap prices
