Validity of Income Letters for Extension of Stay

Featured Replies

My Annual UK State Pension Statement is dated March 2018, my Private Pension Statement is dated August 2018, if I have them both verified at the British Embassy will they still be valid when I do my Extension of Stay/Retirement Visa on the 1st of March 2019 ?

i am aware that the Embassy are stopping the verification on the 1st of January.

The last day for letters was 12 Dec - you have missed it.

Thanks for the info, I could swear but it’s my own fault, I missed topic, Joe just send it to me.

If you have no other options, and with the monthly income route yet to be fully tested, were it me I would be sending the required paperwork to the BE by mail asap.

They are still issuing the income letters - likely to continue for a period of up to 10 working days from 12th December (I received mine today and it was dated 13th) - so they may treat late receipts within that window as 'delayed due to Thai post' and process. Am sure there will be a few in the same boat as you.

Including a covering latter explaining the reason for the delayed despatch ('brain fart') and hoping for their assistance on this important matter might just work. Nothing ventured.........

Sending by email might just work as well, but possibly more likely to bring an instant 'too late' message than if sent by mail. Then again, BE might just show a bit of compassion (!!) if your email gives an an explanation for the delay. Who knows...

Good luck with whatever option you choose.

What is the risk of 800k in the bank...? Many people keep saying that,  but with so many expats having this or even more in Thai banks,  there are not many incidents of loosing their money...!

(I'm genuinely concerned, so let me know if you have something...)

It’s not the risk it’s the poor exchange rate and I believe more expats wil use Agents rather than transfer money at the current poor exchange rate.

Send an email and ask if you submit your application in email will they process it ?

Costs nothing to ask does it. If they say they can do it in time you have lost nothing.

There is no charge if the BE don't issue the Income Letter.

You mentioned that your extension expires on 1st March, so not a new application. If you are only transferring the 800k now, seems you may be outwith the three month 'seasoning' period. Otherwise you may need to restart the process or go down an expensive agent route.

But, as they say, up to you.

It’s only 2 months too season the money for the first Extension.

Replied in your other post. In your situation use a good agent. Hopefully by your second extension you can organize best method to suit you.

Thanks Jack that’s my current thoughts., I will look at seeking advice from an Agent.

That is true for British people (thanks to Brexit) but for EUR or USD the exchange rate is far to be so poor if you look at their graphs on 3 or 5 years.

Also a poll on this forum showed that the most used option (before the 4 embassies'  decision) was already the 400/800k in the bank. No doubt that many of those who can't use the Embassy Letter anymore will move to the 400/800k option.

Some agent-options came up in this topic - but that's for the Pattaya/Jomtien area.  One report claimed as low as 13K Baht.

I may be wrong but I think if you used a letter last time, this is your second extension. 3 months?

If they have it and don’t use income method, maybe forced into it. Trip home to renew for mine or agent at 15k is far better than submitting to the wims of this current “thought bubble”driven system. 800k now, next time?? Money in the bank is meant to be re assuring, not here it’s not!
