Govt keen to develop provinces in upper northeast

BANGKOK, 17th December (NNT) - The Thai government is introducing measures to bring about the development of a provincial cluster in the Upper Northeast, known as the "Sabai Di” Cluster, which comprises the five provinces of Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Loei, and Bueng Kan.

The provincial cluster is seen as a gateway to the Lao PDR and China. The proposed development of the provinces calls for five initiatives, which are part of a master plan for regional development.

The first initiative involves logistics development, improving links with neighboring countries in terms of commerce, investment, border trade, tourism, and people-to-people contact. Several feasibility studies will be conducted, such as those concerning the construction of "Bypass Loei” and "Bypass Chiang Khan”, investment in integrated transport systems, and the construction of a new Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge in Loei.

The second initiative centers on water supply development for agriculture and better flood controls, while the third seeks to upgrade local production, create higher value, and increase productivity. In this regard, a full-cycle agricultural development project will be carried out, along with other projects to develop a smart market to enable the cluster of provinces to serve as a hub in the Greater Mekong Subregion.

The fourth initiative involves tourism development. Major projects include the development of tourism facilities at Ban Chiang Archaeological Site in Udon Thani, the development of tourism sites in Phu Kao – Phu Phan Kham National Park in Nong Bua Lamphu, and the creation of a landmark in Bueng Kan.

Meanwhile, the fifth initiative involves the development of local people’s quality of life. It includes infrastructure development and public services. Major projects in this undertaking include road development around the so-called "Red Lotus Sea,” the construction of a stadium, the development of "Udon Thani City,” and traffic management at the border checkpoint at the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai.

In other words...

Govt keen to buy votes of provinces in the upper northeast !

You know it is pre-election time when a coup general rides through the pampas on the ticket of charity.

First words from my wife lots of chance for corruption.

Quote: "Gateway to the Lao PDR and China" - no mention of VIETNAM. Always "CHINA" and I hope we here in Isaan are not going to be overrun by thousands of rude, arrogant and loud Chinese tourists.
