UDON THANI — Outdoor concerts featuring a Santa on the mic and shirtless privates chugging beer recall the life of the American GI in the early 1970s.

Those are some of the scenes in vintage photos purportedly taken Christmas Day 1971 at what was the 7th RRFS Ramasun Station in Udon Thani province. They were posted online Tuesday afternoon.

Was there in 1971- Udorn was  great in those days as was all of Thailand.  No pollution- No traffic.  Life was easy and the Thai people the most hospitable ever.

Was also there earlier this year-  Thais still great but too much traffic;  pollution; and the constant quest for bigger. Everyone chasing the Baht. Locals more stressed. If there was a time machine , 1971 here I come..

I was also there then for a one year tour, Was sent there when the 83rd RRSOU in Bangkok was closed.
